Left mark like an open diff. ?
Drove the L to work yesterday, first time it's been out since Sunday. (I was suffering withdraw) Anyway, on a little side road with nice smooth pavement, I hit it on a roll at about 10 mph. Never heard anything except blower scream, stayed in it til about 4500. On my way out about an hour later I see this fat az, faint black mark about 75ft long, left side only. Hmm, I think that mark has to be mine as no one else has tires that wide and I'm sure it wasn't there before.
Is something wrong here?

Mracer:
Sounds like a potential problem unless your right tire was in the dirt or something. Mine is a reliable two-striper, as it should be. A one-wheel peel doesn't sound like something you should be doing with a limited slip.

Matt,
The best way to find out for sure is to do it again!!! Oh what fun, no??
Sometimes my truck spins a long way but will not leave dark marks. It's still spinning and you may not hear the "squealing", but it's doing it.....just move the steering wheel slightly to verify....but hold on or you'll be in the ditch!!!!
Keep in touch. We still need to get that photo shoot sometime.

Ryan

The rubber on these tires don't leave long lasting marks. Traffic driving over them disrupts and dissipates them rather rapidly. I leave them on the road on my way into work and they're usually gone in 2-3 days.
You also might wanna check your tire pressure, if it's too high or low the mark will be narrower. I get best traction around 30PSI.

Well, after the rain last night, they were gone today, so who knows. I know they both spin, I can feel it whenever I give it a little to much, taking off. The worst time is when I am at a stop sign and then turn. They don't squeal but I can feel it slipping. It's weird how they don't squeal much at all.
I think this was touched on way back, but anyway I agree with a couple of guys further up in this thread. These tires/or the truck are quite different than most rubber burners.
Mine rarely "squeals" even when spinning hard.
My take is a combination of the type of tire we run, the relatively light weight of the rear end and the tremendous torque we get right off the line. I think it just spins them so hard it sort of gets the rubber on a plane almost like a boat and there is perhaps less tire contact than on other muscle machines.
As a BTW, my '69 BelAir with a 390 horse 427 will lay rubber just like the Lightning does, but it makes just all kinds of peeling noise from the tires. Of course, completely different tires and weight distribution too.
Just another $.02

Mracer,
Twice this year when running at the drag strip (two diffrent days), My L has made the first run of the day with only the right wheel driving (and smoking) for 1/4 mile. On subsquent runs, both wheels were driving. I will be taking "The Truck" in to a local "good dealer", to have the rear end replaced under warranty.

I dont know if its just different materials the streets are made of, but I'm out here in Southern California, and when I light em up, you hear it! It doesnt matter if i really get on it or if its just a few feet, it makes a very loud squeal. But you are right about it not leaving the lasting marks.
What about you other So. Cal. guys, loud bunrouts?
