Question Calling BABolt

I've been reading about how you lowered your L with the Roush kit. This may have been mentioned and I missed it but did doing this void your factory suspension warranty? I'd also like to know how it is that you managed to get your kit and installation for $750 (without shocks) but later you posted that the very same kit costs $900. I'm not excited about spending that much money but if that's what it takes to do it right and the ability to continue to drop the truck off at the dealer should I have any problems then that's the way I'll go. Thanks for your help.

Hello,
I will try to answer your questions. I lowered both of my Lightnings using the Roush spring kit and since Roush's engineering facility is close by I had it done there. My first one was done over 16 months ago and at that time there were no other lowered Lightnings and I worry about tearing of the front fascia, it took me 3 months to make up my mind to do it. In regards to warranty, Ford will not warranty any after-market item added to your truck. Just read the fine print in the FRPP catalog. You buy it, it breaks, you are out of luck. What I like about Roush is that they stand behind there parts, you have a problem with it or it breaks they fix it. My friend had the Bilstein shocks and one broke and it was fix by Roush no questions asked. I posted the kit prices after contacting Roush because others were asking if they would do mail order and they will. Also in many cases the Ford dealer will install the Roush kit on your vehicle and there is no problem with Vehicle warranty (again please remember there will be no Ford warranty on the Roush items). This is where you should talk things over with your dealer, many of them not only carry Roush and FRPP items but they will actually install them for you too. They also take care of you to when it comes time for warranty work. I hope this information helps and please realize that for my application I found that the Roush suspension items to be the best for me. I cannot speak to any other suspension kits since I have not tried them.

Babolt. I believe 700-900 a very good price for an install of this type. Especially since Roush has a good reputation. I have heard a rumor that there is a Roush facility in North Texas. jw

Thanks for your ansewring my questions. You've helped a lot. I'll give ford a call and see what they have to say. You mentioned being concerned about tearing up the front fascia. Have you had any trouble with that?

oh....yeah..fyi...I bought the Edelbrock IAS shocks from Summit Racing. Summit had them drop shipped from Edelbrock direct. About a month ago, I went up to Fort Worth to have a long time buddy at Fort Worth Champion Spring put on the drop shackles and shocks. Much to our dismay we discovered the front shocks had been inadvertently mis boxed. The carton was right, but the shocks were the wrong stocking item. To make a long story short. I was to report on the ride quality via this forum but I have yet to mount the front ones to give an accurate report. Summit's customer service sucked once they had to engage the issue. I actually went through the calling scenario with Edelbrock demanding they pay the UPS "call tag" as I was not to incur shipping charges on Edelbrock's behalf. Fort Worth Champion Spring personnel state that this is an occurence that happens occasionally. Great! I really can't tell a whole lot of difference in ride quality with the shackles and rear IAS Edelbrock shocks. What I do notice particularly is the lack of nose dive due to the decrease in inclination level. Hopefully I will have the front shocks mounted soon. I understand that the 2001's come with Bilstein shocks. Ford states they are better on the rebound stroke? I dunno...

BABolt I'd also like to know if you know if I might be able to get the front portion of the suspension mod only. I'm considering going with shackles on the back.

1BAD 4D, how much did you pay for the springs and installation (without the shocks)? Do you think that roush or ford will sell the front portion of the suspension kit separately?

My concern about the fascia stems from the fact that both of mine incurred damage in transit from the plant to the dealer. This is not unique as many other Lightning owners have experienced this too. Also I live in Michigan, perhaps the worst roads in the nation. Just ask anyone that visited for the Ford Experience in August and were treated to the cruise up the Southfield freeway ( how many paint chips and did anyone loose a windshield).
