Wink

Again, thanks for all of the input. I am going to try the octane boost and see. If the problem is still there, I will send it back and go from there...

I'm gonna need a little help understanding how a mass air unit burns up transmission clutch packs? I'm not seeing the connection.

Dan,

I'm like ILL_SVT, I don't understand either on the transmission issue. I've been wanting a bigger MAF, but after talking to JL some time ago I decided not to do it.

Cool

lightningquick, a latest greatest chip with ram air and filter did 12.99 105.1 in october on a nice 60 degree day and right behind him mine ran 12.926 107.74 with pro m and swanson chip. so as you can see they are NOT the same performance on the same day, same track, same mods other than chip and filter setup. further more the airraid and first 00 superchip gave my L a 13.5 e/t the swanson/pro m combo is 5 to 6 tengths faster and iv'e not had any problems with it. what else is there to understand.

The PRO-M flows more air than the stock unit. Engines are nothing but pumps. Air in, air out. The more air you can get in the better. Why do you think you have a blower. More air gives the chip more options for better running, but many chip manufacturers improve performance by leaning out the air fuel mixture. If you have a chip programmed this way and are stock and then add a PRO-M, you will flow more air which will lean the engine even more. If the chip manufacturerer has set up the chip to run as lean as possible without pinging, it will ping if it gets more air. You can also induce this condition of pinging by adding an underdrive pulley to your blower and have a chip that is not programmed for the added boost it will ping. PRO-Ms are a good addition when used with a properly programmed chip. A truck with a PRO-M, Chip, and filter will beat a truck with only a chip and filter, provided the chip has been programmed for the PRO-M.

Well IBFAST,

I stand behind my last opinion and that is what it is.

2nd, Dont think your PRO m is such the reason you are so fast.I also have a SWANSON chip with "NO" pro-m and I am running the same times as you!

Looks like the winning combo is still again the "chip"

as I stated,They are not worth the money and aggrevation. Just my opinion.

NOELM, You said it right.

"A PROPERLY TUNED pro-m and chip will beat just a chip/filter".The problem is ,There is yet to be a "bullet proof" tuner out there.

Also,It still wont beat it by much!

lightningquik, not to start a war or any thing but you would NOT run the same times as me here in michigan and no where near the mph. and i would run three tentghs faster on the east coast at sea level with that good air you guys take for granted. besides i have run twelves six times in a row[hot lapping] with are not so good air at 600+ ft above sea level. just check out what the fast east coast trucks ran at norwalk and you will see where i'm coming from. peace

Cool

My results on the dyno with just the Pro-M I bought at Houston Performance on Dec 5 and no chip was 347.5 rwhp 419.2 tor.with the R9 chip stock air box 343.0 rwhp 429.3 tor. and it pinged . With Houston Performance chip and Pro-M they tune it on the dyno I got 362.5 rwhp 442.6 tor. but my truck would not idle very good and I couldn't start my truck when it was cold Sunday morninig,I tryed two filters same problem so they gave me my money back for the filter .Love the chip .

Unhappy

Well, I "reset" my computer again and flipped my chip to the "richer" side (I have a "race" program too) and added some octane boost. It did pretty well all day until I got to the mall for final Christmas shopping, and it died in the parking lot. It started right back up, but now the check engine light is back on. I may have not driven it enough to allow the octane boost to take effect. It does seem to be acting "better".

If it is still giving me grief after this weekend, Houston Performance will be getting a call. Maybe it won't be too bad, as it is supposed to snow/sleet/freeze rain here next Monday-Thursday anyway. The Lightning will be locked up in the garage anyway.
