Post Ok guys brake questions? HELP

Ok so I painted my front brakes last night and they did turn out real good and they look awsome with the rims on. But I was dropping of some stuf by my grampa this morning and my uncle does alot with his cars too. He told me instead of getting my brakes painted, that I should send them out to get powder coated. He knows a guy who will do my brakes front and back for $100.00 and then like another $15.00 for me to rebuild them. I've never powder coated anything and I don't know how this will look when its done. Does anyone know somebody or have their's done.

The paint looks good but I know that its probably not going to last that long. He said that the powder coating will never come off the brakes for as long as I have it. Sounds to good to be true for 100 bucks.

I would recommend powder coating to. It will last very very long, I would say about as long as the life of your truck. I have some yellow powder coated brakes on my brothers 1994 cobra and it looks AWESOME. for 100.00 do it, or you could buy a kit and do it yourself. Good Luck(sorry I dont have pics but camera is broken).

My suggestion for an L if I had one would be to put some racing stripes that compliment the main color, and powder coat the rims to match the stripes. Then powder coat the brakes the same color as the rest of the truck. Just an idea

Thats a good Idea. When I get my lightning bolts painted on the truck I'm going to have them done in a blue with whtie outline. Thats what I'll do. SO I guess I just going to leave them red for now with the paint.

Powercoating is a good idea... but I've seen painted calipers last a long time. If you used good high-heat paint... they'll last. You could wait until the first paint chip/crack and then powdercoat...

Powder coating is great but I think you will have to remove the calipers. Another route is to go with a PPG product that will also last a long time and you do not have to remove anything but your wheels. I also had rust stains on the rotors and cleaned them up.

Thats what I'm thinking now cause I don't drive my bolt in the snow, rain, mud, anything to get it that dirty. Plus only at night and the weekends. So the paint should stay in pretty good condition right. I'm going to post some pic tomorrow of the brake job in progress. Wait till you guys see how I use plastic to tape off an area. Think of it this way, I used to be in the field working with asbestos. My tools are duct tape, poly(plastic), and spray glue.

Thumbs up

RTKILLA - have used POR (Paint Over Rust) for many years - this stuff does not come off - including what gets on hands - it's gotta wear off! The company is located in New Jersey - I order mine from Ohio - around 45.00/quart. This paint can be sprayed or brushed - all colors are avilable - they even have high heat paint - 1000 deg+.
