Unhappy Help!!!!

I just bought a 99 Lightning has 11,000 miles on it. After i am done driving it around it smells like i have a coolant leak , but i cant seem to find where it is coming from ther are no leaks to be seen just the smell . I started it up and opend the hood and the smell seems stronger on the passenger side of the compartment. Any ideas guys i would also like to know what the k&n filter # is to replace the stock air filter, went to auto zone and they didnt know their book only went to 98.

Strictly a guess!!
Check the hose clamp for the heater hose on passenger side right above #4 coil pack.
Check it to be sure it's tight!

Dont waste $50 on the replacement KN filter - It is the air box that is the restriction. About 6 months ago a compare was done between the Stock filter and stock type K&N and no HP difference was seen. Get one of the after market filter kits -- Much better use of your money..

If your truck seems to be running a little rough it may be the right rear coil bad from the anti-freeze leaking from that clamp onto the coil. I had mine replaced from the leaking clamp at about 11,000 also.

Boy:

The part # for the K & N is 33-2140.

Personally, I like and retained the stock box. It's an owner's choice.

Congrats!

Definately have them check that #4 coil pack as the leaky hose on that coil is a known problem. PS, the SVT supplemental hand book on the '99's listed the wrong air filter # so even though that K&N number may not match what your book says it still may be the correct #. Call 1-800-FORD-SVT to get the right part #.

Cool

Silver_2000,

If your relying on the stock inlet your somewhat correct but the stock box has plenty of volume. You just need to let more air in. My gauge goes so far in the black with these 40 degree temps that it's scary. Here's the link with pics and the results on a 70 degree day.

Chuck

You are absolutely right the stock box is as I said too restrictive. I am not the type to chop my stock airbox so I bought a conical filter setup from PSP. That way in about 20 minutes I can pull the chip and replace the airbox and the dealer is none the wiser.

It sounds great and pegs the Joke Boost gauge just like yours. Mine pegs at 20 degrees or 110.
