01 Ford Lightning

I have 01 Lightning and recently a rod broke on me.....if i want to fix it the cheap way yes i know its not always the best but where i'm at i need a cheap way right now what do i need to do. Any help is greatly appreciated!

You would have to pull your motor to see what damage the rod did. It probably scored up the cylinder wall bad. If it did then my advise would for you to go with a built shortblock. For the same price you gonna pay for a long block from ford "and yes you have to buy a long block they won't sell a shortblock" you can buy a good built bottom end. If your cylinder isn't scratched then you can buy a rod and piston, but you have to have it sized for your crank. I blew my motor 2 days after i bought it and i went a factory longblock, wish i knew then what i know now. Good luck.

would it be cheaper buying a motor used? I'm planning on trading it in.

+1... go with the built short block.

With any luck, your heads are still good. Awhile back, JLP was selling built short blocks for $3,500. Toss in another $1,000 - $1,500 in labor to have it installed and that's about as cheap as it gets.

why are you trading it in? +1 on the built shortblock.. just dont buy from Modular Speedworx aka MSX
