Unhappy Snowmobiles and Trees don't mix!

Well at least the Lightning will still bring a smile to my face. For those of you who don't live in MI; we were absolutely pummeled with snow Monday - Tuesday morning. At least 13 in. where I live. I went snowmobiling with 8 buddies to watch Monday Night Football. On the way home at around 1 am. I missed a turn and smacked a tree head on at 45 - 50 mph. There was so much blowing snow from the high winds that I was outdriving my headlight range. "STUPID"
Anyone who rides knows what i'm talking about. I had two buddies in front of me about 100 yards, they stopped around the turn
to let everyone else know that it was there. They saw the whole thing.
"When your sled hit, the tree bent a little and your sled climbed straight up it about 20 ft. you blew off the tree and landed in the snow."
The impact blew off my right boot and my wrist watch on my left hand, which was covered by my glove that is now torn. My injuries: two broke ribs, very sore right knee, calf and ankle..(where the boot was) Nice 3 in. gouge on left shin, most likely a handle bar and some very deep purple bruises on upper right leg. (handle bar)
I'll take the torn muscles, ligaments and bruises any day over the ribs. I can't sneeze, burp, blow, fart, laugh, talk loud, bend down, stand up or wipe my ? without saying ?!!!
I've been riding sleds since 1989 and this is the first totally wrecked sled. I've learned a lesson: "It doesn't HURT to slow it down!!!!"
Be Safe Everyone and Merry Christmas!!

FordPlay,
I feel your pain! I ran into a tree on my dirt bike doing 35-40 and my leg was crushed between the tree and the bike, then when my body hit the tree it threw me 15 feet through the air. I had the wind knocked out of me and the people who came to help thought my helmet strap was choking me so they cut it off of me! The doctor said their was no way I didn't break a bone but after X-rays he was stunned to note that I hadn't broken a thing. My right leg below the knee swelled up and my entire leg was one huge nasty bruise, I mean like "Night of the living dead" gross! I had 2 bruised ribs, it is hard to breathe, walk, sleep, do anything! Trees are much harder than they look. Just be lucky your wife didn't see it, it has been 2 years and my wife still hates the fact that I want to ride again! She lets me though!

Morale of my story, don't show off to friends that is when you get hurt the worst. I am not saying that is what you were doing FordPlay. Get well soon! Be careful all of you!

Thanks for the words of support, i'll probably laugh at this one a year from now, but for now, laughing is definately out of the question.
For 3 yrs. i've worked on my Polaris Ultra, got it where I always wanted it. Last weekend, 12/9/00 I was in Mancelona MI. My buddies all know how strong my sled runs. I put it up against all theirs, including an XCR 800 (port/polish) Millenium Mach Z, 2001 ZR 800 LE. I beat everyone of those sleds and I run a 679cc. Makes you smile when you run like that and did it yourself. Some of these guys paid a lot of money to have their sleds "professinally" set up. I've put so much time, money and knuckle blood into this sled that it's the only pain that the Darvocet doesn't make better! At least they know the truth, There Is A Replacement For Displacement" It's called CLUTCHING!!!

Ford Play,
I feel for you. I broke 5 ribs a little over two years ago, and it definitely sucks. Along with all the things you mentioned that hurt I also found that I couldn't lay down flat, so no sleeping in a bed. I slept in the recliner for about three weeks.

I couldn't play any sports in high school because I hit a tree going about 40 on my dirt bike. Tore my muscle lining so bad. I have a golf ball sized lump that pops out of my leg when I walk, its the muscle poping out of the hole in muscle lining.

Guess your season for sledding may be done this year; too bad it happened this way. It can be so hard sometimes to not ride fast and hard; especially at the outset of a new sledding season. My bud and I wiil hit I-75 in about 3 hours to head up to the UP. Your accident will be on my mind this weekend, I'm sure.

BadBolt, Dont keep me in mind, I don't want to jinx anyone. You should hit some fantastic snow up there, not trees!!
Be safe and have a good one, eh!!

I hear you on the ribs.
Two summers ago I went to lift the ladder on my swim platform before pulling the anchor. Well I had bare feet and the sundeck was wet, and I fell out of the boat. I hit the swim platform and the outdrive(which was tilted all the way up) on the way into the water.
I bruised my sholder, sprained my knee, and broke two ribs. I can laugh at it now but it took allmost a year to fully heal The ribs were the worst in the first two months, and the knee took the longest to heal.
I can't even blame alchohol for the spill I was totaly sober at the time. My friends still kid me about it, I am sure once you heal up yours will never let you live it down either.
Hope you get better soon
Don

I feel for you man.

You want to here something even dumber. When I was a kid I was riding my bike and I hit a little rock in the street, wiped out like an idiot and broke my left arm, wrist, and my little baby pinkie. This rock was so small, about the size of a marble. I walked all the way home crying like a little bit@h dragging my left arm. Since then I have broke that arm three more times, and not in the same place. I have a problem with my left side arm I think.

Just thought maybee that would make you feel better. I sure makes me laugh ever time I think about that spill.
