Rear End Girdles, opinions..
i see JDM, LFP, and TA Performance selling rear girdles.. what are the differences between them?? do we need them?? im going to be using a detroit locker and not a true track, im wondering will this aid in the life span and support of my differential?? what do you guys think?? post your opinions..
the JDM, LFP, and T/A are all basically the same exact cover. and I have never heard of anyone blowing up a rear end unless maybe they were pushing like 800hp on slicks. the girdles do look real cool though, and certainly can't hurt.
Probably not needed at lower power levels or with street tires, but if you are using slicks I would say its advisable... as it prevents the bearing caps from distorting while under heavy acceleration when the pinion is trying to force the ring gear away from it. I have run one on my L for several years and have not had any adverse issues, I also run one of my street/strip car and can testify that it deffinately helps with the rear carrier bearing life (of couse that is in an 800+hp procharged 4200lb sedan).

I would not pay a dime more for the billet, especially considering Ian's observation that rear end failures are exceedingly rare, if not unheard of.
Rich there is a much cheaper way out, and with this product you can drive it cross country in all temps and weather without worrying

You'd be amazed at how stong it is, it's flexible yet will keep normally moving objects from moving

and done right it can look good too

Schitt there's nothing it wont do, used correctly you could even end world hunger

I bought my T/A to go along with my true trac, both still sitting in my garage, do I think it really helps, maybe with another 500HP on tap but the above is correct, how often do you read about someone tearing up the rear end? Sure clutch packs will start to wear and slip but the list is short when it comes to tearing up a set of axles or cracking a ring set, I bought it because it doesen't hurt, adds a bit of non needed strength and most important it looks cool.
i was looking into it as cheap insurance for my rear.. i think i will get it from LFP being that it is the cheapest and identical to the TA...

I installed LFP's about a month ago, heres some pics..I went ahead and istalled girdle because, I threw in different gears(4:10). I noticed my outer seals(axel) were leaking on passenger side so, I went ahead replaced both bearings and all... My truck sits so low that you can't really appreciate it. Spare tire is in the way...Need to yankit and put in storage but, the day I do is when I'll probably need it.
