Post Feb. 2001 MMFF

The Feb. '01 MMFF shows the FRIDGE getting a Prec. Industries torque converter and Level 10 shift kit. They went from a best, on MT ET Streets, of 13.15 to a 12.72. The two times were not on the same day. They seem to be rather pleased with their results.

Has anyone else obtained simular results?

I don't have a "L" but my F150 has a 4R100 tranny in it. I bought a Precision converter and it is a 9.5" not a 10.5". The same converter goes in the "L".

I got in touch with Precision Industries and their Lightning converter is the 10.5" Stallion w/2400 rpm stall. Price : (hold on now) $795.00 !!! The shift kit is about $150.00 and I have that now. My only gripe about the shift kit is I should have done it sooner. That converter is next on my X-mas list however. I've bought a P.I. converter before and it's a top notch product.

I don't recall any prices being mentioned. Prob. close to what RobBlack has said. You might be able to shop around and get a better deal???

Thumbs up

They ran M/T ET Streets size 26.5 x 10.5 x 16 and got the short times in the 1.7 to 1.8 range. Best was a 1.75.
The converter is a 10.5" direct from the mouth of P.I. I spoke with them already. The Lightning has a converter specifically built for it. No other F-series truck has that converter. And a 9.5" would have too high of a stall speed for the L. Besides, there is a picture of both converters side by side and it is definately NOT a 9.5" Mustang unit.

Just got my feb issue of MM&FF and I was happy to see the great article they did on Pat Barrett and Level 10. Pat is a good friend of mine and has done some great work on my lightning. I have been trying to get my 3.73 gears put in the last few weeks but the weather has been a problem. I only live 3 miles from Level 10. his shop is first rate technology wise and he has a good group of experienced guys working for him. Pat did the shift kit on my lightning with some extra in shop tuning. Originally I passed on doing the precision converter but I am having second thoughts now after reading this story. I believe Pat told me it would be around $795 for the converter installed. but anyone can check with him on the price at 973-827-1000. Thanks 95rcobra.

What does a Torque Convertor actually do?

I understand a shift kit changes trans-oil pressures to change the firmness of shifts, etc... but I have no idea what a torque convertor does nor what the "stall speed" is...

Thanks,
Daniel
