Post Dont mind this...(intercooler/clunk & dealer playing dumb)

Hey guys, made an appointment to have the truck in, gave the fellow a short rundown of whats wrong and what needs to be done. Over the next day or so I will be editing this thread quite a lot, so bear with me. I also have a few questions, I'll try to rely on the earch function. Second, I am using this message board as a tool for others, but mainly a tool for me, as I can later go to school and print this out, or any info I link from here (Thanks Steve).

Dealer on record is Cal Worthington Ford, an SVT dealership.

I have 7yr/100k mile warranty, the 'meal deal,' and a 50k mile service package, so any problems are on them. No mods, muffler is back on, took out the system. Just to be safe. No chip. Here's a list of what its going in for. Current mileage: 24,450

1)Intercooler
He claimed that he's never heard of this problem. Which is why I am gonna show up ready to fight. Expect a bunch of links here from the FAQs, and BON.

2)Clunk
Sounded a little more familiar, but still seemed like they are gonna play dumb on me.

3)25k mile tune-up
Understood what I was talking about there. Had my truck on record.

4)Cruise-control
The cruise control indicator light is out, he seemed a little perplexed about this one, but I know it exists, I remember seeing it the first day I had the truck. If its going in for a while, its gonna get everything looked at. Also the cruise control cable is cracked. Will ask to have it replaced.

5)Tonneau Cover
Noticed at 11k miles a spider crack near the bed, gonna try to get a new one. I'll take a picture of it.

6)rental car
I noticed videoman saying he had ESP (Extended Service Package?) or something and he also mentioned getting a rental car. Would like more info here.

7)Warranty tow
I asked him about this, and told him I would like one. He asked if it could run, I replied yes, but I lost pretty much all of the original intercooler fluid and replaced it with water, which we know freezes at approx. 32* F, and wouldn't like to start it. He didn't seem to helpful there, and asked if I was going to have it towed (implying I would pay for it). I told him I'll call Ford Road Side Assistance.

I do not expect much, except that for my intercooler repair, the clunk, and the cruise control cable. I would like to get a new tonneau, but wont cry over it.

Last, I read the road side assistance card, and it states that itrs good for the bumper to bumper copverage period. I have the 7 year/100k mile warranty, well, the paper work is in a box somehwere in storage, so I can't quite get it now. I asked the fellow on the line, and he didn't give me an answer, so I assume I still have it. As far as the tow goes, I could get it there, I have a set of cables (chains) I could use, and have used in the past.

Right now I have to get to bed...Dont worry about the big stuff, just looking for answers on the rental car, and warranty stuff. Everything else was pretty much over discussed here.

Have you tried the bulb test to see if it really is the cruise bulb? With Key Off, hold down the trip button on the dash, and turn the key on. After approx. 5 seconds, the needles should all sweep and the odometer should says "gage". Let off the trip button now. Now you can push the trip button to cycle through all kinds of info, but one of the first items is a bulb test, which should confirm whether it really is the light or not. If you do this trick and start the motor, you can bring up a real time digital tach or a digital speedo, pretty cool. Here is a link that explains it all with pictures: http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/dtcodes.htm

Good luck!

Through the Ford Extended warranty, you get a certain amount of money for a rental. It is $28.00 dollars a day for five days.

Regarding your question about towing. Towing reimbursement is up to $100.00. You don't need the dealership's approval. Have it towed to the store, you'll pay for the service and Ford pays you back.

Regarding Roadside Assistance. If I remember correctly, this service is good also through the length of the ESP warranty

For more info. you can call Ford ESP 800.367.3377

Do I sound like an advertisement for the Ford ESP or what.

Tundra,

I would put some anti-freeze in that I/C. If the dealer notes that you are running straight water, he may decide that it froze and hurt your intercooler, and try to make it your fault/problem.

Tundra,
FYI, I have been waiting about 3 weeks for intercooler to arrive (still driving the L). If they dont have it in stock you are in for a long rental car period.

98Cobra, I tried that, and it didn't light up. It is a little yellow light that reads 'cruise' right between the speedo and the tach. Thanks. Checked out the NHTSA records and same thing happened to one guy, but the dealership tried telling him thats the way to vehicle was designed.

FORDSALES
Thanks for the info, gonna keep that number in mind.

BadDog
gonna go pour some in right now. Thanks for looking out.

Mark_2kL) I think Cal has 1 of 2 svt dealerships in the state, the other in Fairbanks.

POPs99L
I kinda figured that...

The Bumper to Bumper is 3/36 so you should be able to get the tow covered.

I have ESP and I get 28 towards Rental car per day - I end up just paying the tax. The # of days covered is a loose number some say 3 some 5, some more. In the end it is the dealers decision. The form that my dealer gives to the Enterprise rental car place at the end of the service counter makes it clear that the numbers are completely flexible. I have driven a 15 passenger chevy van, an Escalade and a Extra Cab chevy truck. Wasnt impressed by any of them. I did find irony in the fact that they dont have a single Ford for rent.

Good Luck..........

A note about Cal Worthington dealerships... He had several here, but the state of WA kicked his butt out many years ago for various types of fraud (the only one I can remember off hand is bait-and-switch). You are probably in for a battle with them. Check their work carefully, I wouldn't put it past them to simply take your intercooler out and replace it with a u-bent hose.
