Anyone Heard of 'Side-Gapping?'
Anyone Heard of 'Side-Gapping?'
I've read a few post about it over the years here.
Most are claiming 1/10, more MPH on the 1320, and better Power on the Street. The downside seems to be longevity
(I heard Gator has that problem too)

Is that like side-boob? (Family Guy reference)
I had the plugs in my Lightning side gapped with the turbo. Didn't see any kind of gain or difference, just figured it was a good idea for that kind of cylinder pressure.

Yes, this is an old mod. We used to side gap and index the plug gaps. Its good insurance and though some may argue that it doesn't add power, it sure insures the spark, and in racing, thats one less problem to endure.Good article, btw.

Interesting...
I have a plug out of Scott Kalitta's top fueler from what was then (quite some time ago) a world-record pass of 4.72 seconds.
It's a plain-Jane Champion plug, a N61YD to be exact.
It's gapped precisely as the article shows (the electrode is ground back to unshroud approximately 75% of the center electrode). I always wondered about that.
Good link.
Makes you think there's something to it - the fuelers are trying to light off nitro with two plugs per hole, at ridiculously low A/F and 60+ PSI of boost. That's a pretty thick environment to throw a spark through.
