Post OIL LEAK REPORT

as i stated in my post a few days ago the oil leak on the passengers side was just a few minutes ago diagnosed as a leaking head gasket. here is what they said they were going to do: we are ordering the parts, gaskets and etc. and when they come in we will pull the head and send it out. well send it out where i asked, and they said, to the head shop. well the last head shop i went to sold things they were busted for later. but as they explained it would be at that time that they would be able to determine if there was a casting flaw or not.

does this sound legit compared to the procedures that some of you with the same problem have went throught. how can i keep them from using the band-aid approach.

i trust you guys far more than who i am having to deal with here.

thanks,

Phil

My guess would be that they are trying to avoid an engine replacement in the midst of a change of engines for manufacturing. (ie. '00 and '01's) I would have been just as happy to have head work done for an oil leak as an engine swap seems pretty extreme depending on the cause. Not to mention losing matching codes, blah, blah blah.

I guess the bottom line is this: if their fix stops the oil leak, and you don't end up with a wonky engine, everything is fine.

Just my $0.02.

Be sure and ask for a 3 angle valve job while they have it all torn apart.

Are they going to replace the driver's side gasket too? Whenever I take apart one side, I always do the other, to keep things balanced. That way you know for sure the gasket thickness is the same. I'd ask about that, 3 angle valve job that side, too. Better breathing, and that means more power.

WHAT04, do you happen to have a picture of your truck? The law states that we can only have 22% tint max. Law also allows for tinting shops to sell any kind they want, and the police tend to pull over prominent vehicles only. They know about the truck's rep. but they can't pull me over for nothing, as they have no proof, illegal tint would give them a reason. I want tint, but not sure what 22% looks like. Thanks.

Tundra:

The tint looks a lot darker than it actually is. The Ford glass seems to be very clear, as opposed to GM's. My Denali has exactly the same tint but you can barely see into it whereas the L is quite a bit lighter. Looks good though.

Highly recommended.
