Post Anyone know what I raced?

On my way home from work I saw this little yellow thing zipping in and out of mild traffic on the freeway behind me. Looked like some exotic car so I on reflex got prepared. He comes by at about 70, I punch it and immediately catch up, by 90 I am ahead and absolutely leave him by the time I am at 120 (had to slow down because traffic was getting worse and yes he was definetly trying). He caught up behind me but I think was too embarassed to pull up next to me. (a lot of people saw this butt woopin). He never did pass and exited a few miles down. I did manage to see a little Lotus symbol. Car looked new, was about as short as an MR-2 only much wider. Just curious as to what model it was? I am sure he had no problem reading the blue oval on my tailgate. Made my evening.

Alex

Did it look like this??

The pictures are of a Lotus Elan. 1.6 litre, 4-cylinder, 16 valve, DOHC, turbocharged "Isuzu-Lotus" engine. Sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection. Stock maximum power: 162 bhp (SAE) @ 6600 rpm. Maximum torque: 148 lb ft @ 4200 rpm. Maximum speed: 137 mph. 0-60 mph: 6.7 seconds.

Here is a link to the Superchips info on it http://www.superchips.com/elan.htm

Another Lotus is an Esprit which is bigger and faster

0-60 4.5 sec, 350HP V-8, $90,000

The last Lotus is the Lotus Elise but I am not sure if they were even imported to the US.

0-60 5.8 sec, 4 cylinder, 1/4 mile 15.2 sec, 118HP, $30,000.

BlueFlareside-

It was the Elan. Based on the stats you provided, I can see why I left him so easily. Thanks.

I came upon an Esprit on the freeway before after reading the performance figures I wish I would've raced him.

They do have the Elise here in the US I have seen a few over at So-Cal Speed Shop. Its a nice little car I didnt know they were that cheap. Hmmmmmm, maybe a new daily driver.

Brimstone: THe Elise is not street legal in the US... it is imported for track use only... though in So-Cal, I'm sure it wouldn't get a second look...

Any car as ugly as the Elan deserves to be beat by a Pinto.
