Question Noel and anyone who has put a speakerbox in the L

First of all, Noel, how did you get your CD changer wire to reach so the CD player will sit on the hump under the passenger seat? All I have is about 6" of wire that seems to be run somewhere behind the plastic on the pass/back corner.

Secondly, how did y'all manage to build a box with enough airspace for the sub with that big aZZ console? For my JL W6 10", I need .625 cubic feet and it seems that the console is gonna cause some problems. I'm thinking of mounting my amps (Fosgate 360 and 120) on the box below where the console sticks out in the back, but again, I need enough room for airspace.

HELP!

Hey Duck!

There are .625 cf (I think...) speaker boxes pre-made at Jack's Mobile Audio(in Bryan). They will fit your 10" sub nicely.

I used one of these for a 10" sub myself.

The COOL thing is that it WILL look custom, because the height of the box stops right even with the console in the folded down position. The only downside is that you lose about 1" leg room on the passenger side.

This is a great option if you only want/need a single sub.

I don't have pics (yet), but I could meet up with you tomorrow to give a look see if you want.

we could talk about those slicks too....

Thanks for the reply. We were in the process of finding out if it was feasable to even fit a box with that much airspace in the L. After a little high school trig we figured out that it would work and we'd have room to mount the amps behind the console. I think all total, we spent about $25 and have a pretty nice custom box that fits perfectly between the plastic trim on either side of the rear wall and tucks in nicely under that "lip". BTW, did you just cut those studs off that were used to hold the factory box and cd changer? I wound up painting it grey and putting black/white "fleckstone" over it. I'll let you check it out when I get a chance. Thanks again.

BTW, I'll be off all day tomorrow (after 9:10) so give me a holler at the house or on my cell phone. The slicks are here waiting on a buyer.

You gotta remove that tool box first.
CD cord goes behind plastic and under door floor plate. Lift it up and move cord down to where it is parallel to front of seat. Run it under carpet to middle and cut hole to get the plug thru. Plenty of cord for it to sit on hump. Alex and I used Bose 301 series IV three way speakers behind the seat. They worked out great.

Thanks Noel! It looked like the wire might run under the door panel, but I wasn't sure. Now I know. I'll try and get everything wired and installed tomorrow. As for speakers and stuff, all of that is taken care of. $25 box, $100 JL W6, and $320 worth of Fostage 120 and 360 amps aught to sound just about right.

Don't worry. If you can't find the track, just listen for the War Hymn on the air and follow it on it.

I have 2 10 w6s behind my seats centered on the center console. With my seats all the way back. They fit fine. In fact I am adding a third w6 here in a few, There is even room for a fourth. But no really good place to mount more amps without losing leg room. I had a custom box built that comes up to the lip on the back side of the cab. It is slightly angled and fits perfectly behind the seats. I have a phoenix gold zx-475 under my passenger seat that works perfectly. Someday I might be able to hear it again....still awaiting the return of the L

Did you just cut off the studs that were used to hold the factory box and cd changer in place?

Three tens can be done with .625 no problem. Two is a piece of cake. One should be like nothing at all. With the center console, mount the woofers to the bottom and the subs will clear it. check it out. I mounted the one amp behind my seat in a slot and the other under the passenger seat.

Hello all..

I have 2 of the JL Audio 8" Micro Subs in my L.. For their size.. I am very impressed.. Much cleaner and tighter than Bazookas..

You could go with 2 10" but dam.. that is ALOT of bass for that truck..

The good thing about the 8" is no loss of room at all.. I am 6'4" and did not sacrafice any leg room..

Duck, I ground the studs off in my truck.

I lost a little seat distance mounting the amps, but for now I'm just showing it off to friends... I'm going to be changing the headunit and stuff soon and I'm going to move the amps under the seats then.

In a previous post you showed a view of your box from the drivers side. I could figure out what you've mounted behind the driver's seat. What is it? What are the rough dimensions of your box?

Duck,
Thanks for the reply to my post. Do you happen to have any pics of your boxes? I am wanting to go with 2 Infinity Perfect 10's and I need to know overall dimensions for a .60 cu ft box. If you want to e-mail them to me my address is jacowen@us.ibm.com Thanks.
