Post RPM off the line, tire pressue and shift points

Could those of you who race please post the following information with respect to your 1999 or 2000 Lightning. Please also indicate whether your vehicle is stock or modified - particularly rear end ratio:

1. Tire pressure used.
2. RPM off the line and technique used,e.g. brake applied, 1500 RPM, relaease brake
3. Shift points - RPM/Speed

Thanks in advance for the info.

Cool

Depends on the modifications you've done. With a chip and filter combo is different than stock. Stock pulls some timing at launch so it's easier to launch without losing traction. With the chip and filter I drop tire pressure to 30 psi and drive around the water box, straighten it out, brake torque it for a few seconds to get the trash off the tires and then stage. When all staging lights are lit I break torque up to 1100-1200 rpms and as the tree drops I release the brake and roll into the throttle when the third yellow lights up. You should go from brake torqueing to WOT in about 1/2 a second and experiment from there. BTW, launch in drive with or without O/D on or off, let the computer do the shifting. Don't try shifting it yourself, you''ll never do as well as the computer can. Try it out on the street and you'll notice it takes forever to shift after you've shifted the lever so it would be very difficult to time it properly.

1. 28-30 psi hot. Sometimes I just go with what I showed up with.
2. Stage and hold brake, raise RPM to just above idle. Look at the other guy and smile. Don't wait for the green. On the last yellow (DO THIS AS FAST AS YOU CAN) drop the brake and punch it.
3. Let the computer shift.

I also don't spend time or rubber smoking the tires. When you pull up to stage it's obvious where to go; line up on the two strips of rubber everyone else has put down.
The question I have is what are the advantages and disadvantages of staging first or last? I have found that staging last gives me goof-off time while the other guy has to wait. Staging first and I...I...I don't know.

No Noel, it is you who should do the search before you start chastising. The FAQ only deals with slicks, not F1's.

Talking

So do a search. Most everyone has stated they launch F1s at 26-28 pounds and idle. Anything above idle and they spin so bad you never get traction until it shifts into second. And we all know you start in drive because you can't shift fast enough to stay out of the rev limiter, also posted a 1000 times.

Do you mean on F1's, or slicks?.....either way, I have found that it just costs too much money to even try to learn how to launch for a better 60' on F1's.....IMO

These trucks have too much torque (from the factory) to try and dragrace with the F1's, at least try the Drag Radials, which could be driven to the track by those that dont feel like changing the tires there.

Here's what I do on slicks:

1- Very "healthy" burnout ( in D @ 4800 r.p.m.)
2- Brake-Torque @ 1800-2000 r.p.m.(depending on track conditions)
3- truck shifts at 5600 r.p.m.

I do not shift manually, I believe it is better for the PCM to handle that.

Hope this helps
