Question Price on 2001

There was a post about cheap 2001 Lightnings. So I sent an E-Mail to the guy. This is his reply:

Thanks for the response to my post. I am currently taking orders on 01' Lightnings for an estimated cost of $29,500.00.
If you are interested let me know.

Jim Kelly

Does this seem a bit fishy? Do I smell a hint of B.S.?? If not, great! I mean, I would love to have a 2001 at the most cheapest price, but I E-mailed him back, simply stating, "What's the catch?"

Your thoughts and response on this?

This has been discussed before, but I thought SVT dealer dont "take orders" and then just get as many L's as they want (like say a BMW dealer can).

They get a few per year and that's it... not sure if they can even pick the color.

If you aren't the first/second person on the dealer's "list" you're out of luck.

FORDSALES??

Well here's his response: "Marcus, Courtesy Ford in Portland, OR is a certified SVT dealer. With the limited number of SVT product it is no wonder you are running into those prices. Another thing I want you to realize is you will be ordering a truck from Ford. It is not on the ground and I want you to be clear on the fact that you will be waiting for a truck for 3-4 months. If you have any questions let me know. " " Marcus, I drop ship all of my Fords to either Reno or Las Vegas for a $300 drop ship fee. Intrest rates are a variable depending on a persons credit risk. Most people are paying 7.5% to 8.5%. My minimum deposit on drop shipped vehicles is $750.00 which covers my expenses in shipping the vehicle back. If you have any further questions let me know.

I don't know what the heck any of that means, so I'm sticking with the deal I have.

Hey Blackbolt, I dealt with Jim Kelly before my 2000 lightning was purchased elsewhere. He boasted that his prices were the lowest around but after shopping around and getting my L for $1000 over invoice and then going back to him with these prices I might as well had 3 heads because he forgot who I was. TOO many unknowns when you are dealing with Mr. Kelly. But for the people who like to take risks be very careful. just my .02 later 95rcobra.

All in all, I figured out that it would be best for me just to stick with buying one out here. With all the charges, and then the price, PLUS the fact that I would have to fly to Vegas to pick it up, and then drive it home, it came out slighty more (money wise) that it would just to buy it and hour away from me, and fill the tank up to drive it home.

His E-mail address is Kellyco@wtp.net.

Word of advice, ask a lot of questions, get the whole scoop. It sounds great that he's offering a 2001 L for less than sticker, but you have to find out the additional charges, and if it works out for you.

Well I talked with SALOC, and they only run it through your area Undy. Won't do anything for me since I'm in California. Whata rip.

I found someone who could drop ship me one for $2000 over invoice plus the $250 drop ship fee. The person who gave me his name did this on a 2000 L and is currently driving it so this is legit. If you want his name just e-mail me.

I put a deposit on a 01 yesterday. The final price came to 32,340.00.The salesman told me I would recieve confirmation of the order from "headquarters" within two weeks.Another local SVT dealer would not take an order until production started.Sure hope it works out.

I live a about 10 minutes from Courtesy Ford -I'll definitely go talk to Mr Jim Kelly in person. If it works out and I'm able to put a deposit down -I'll let you all know.

Actually, Jim Kelly finally cleared things up. So I withdrew my deposite at Barber Ford, and went with Courtesy Ford. Paying $2000 less. Woo Hoo. Unless someone can get me fleet price, looks like I'm sticking with this one.

-Marcus
p.s. According to Jim Kelly, I got his last one.
