All I have to say is THANK GOD for the "Rule of Law" People, it's all we have to hold this great country together and be strong. Mega Kudos to the Democratic Judge that followed Florida law and not his political affiliations in letting the Secretary of States interpretation of Florida election law stand judicial scrutiny. Now, if it goes to the Florida Supreme Court, that's stacked to the cieling with Democrat judges, and they smack down the recent decision letting the hand recount votes count, that would be "Judicial Activism" and would be a total disaster for our legal system in the U.S.A.!! Whewww!

 

All of this makes me laugh..

I am from Florida and now almost ashame to admit it.. I think both parties are making a mochary of the legal system as well as the constitution.. Both sides know that our election " method " is old and flawed.. but it still does not give cause to abuse the loop holes and short commings of it..

Bush and Gore need to arm wrestle or something to decide the winner.. this recount crap is getting old..

It seems to me that all Bush wants is what the law in Florida states: the first vote count, then because of the closeness of the race: the second count. After that, to count the overseas ballots which will be added to the second count which will then determine the next President.

It also seems to me the it is the Democratic side that is trying to stop/change or divert the Florida election process. The Bush side has only gone to court to stop the path that the Democrats have take.

So, I don't understand how one can say that both sides are making a mockery of the legal system.

The reason I say both sides is this..

Gore won the popular vote.. ( no argument from either side on this issue ) Yet Bush is using the flawed and outdated Electoral College to his advantage..

Gore needs to stop being a sissy on the recount issue.. so he is to blame aswell..

I voted for Bush.. but if this continues to drag out.. I feel he should concied.. Gore won the popular vote and I fell that is what really matters..

Either way.. the next president will have an asteric next to his name in the history books.. and a dark cloud that follows..

Exactly! Bush has really kept cool during all this. Gore is basically trying to recount the ballots until it swings his way (or he makes it swing his way). His methods are downright scary. Did anyone read the story on ABC.com where they actually caught a democratic politician in Palm Beach Cty with a voting machine in his trunk!? That probably explains why Gore finds more votes every recount while Bush gets none. Now Gore is trying to block some of the oversea's ballots (because they mainly vote republican) while at the same time trying to get all the "dimpled chads" (a ballot not punched through, but dimpled in) for him counted. I never trusted Gore before this, but now the thought of him coming into power actually frightens me

They have just GOT to wrap this up within the next nine months. I heard on the news that a lot of the chads are pregnant. If they wait too long the whole count will change.

Another thing about this pregnant chad issue, I think it's ironic that Bush was Pro-Life but now he's all for terminating the poor things.

The Founding Fathers had some serious sack and the intellect to back it up. They saw first hand what happens when an elite class that thinks it knows best (Hollywood).

If you want elitist career politicians to lord over you, just follow Hillary... after all she has your best interests at heart.

Hmmm..

The founding fathers did not create the electoral college to insure the rights of the people.. actually it was the opposite.. It was put into place to insure wealthy white men were the ones who decided the fate of the country..

Women were not allowed to vote.. remember that..

Blacks were not allowed to vote.. remember that..

It was also formed so people would not be given a chance to re-align with England..

Remember that Revolutionary war thing..

Oh yeah.. and electoral votes were not based on population until much later.. It was origianly based on land.. There were only 13 colonies.. who would have figured we would need anything so elaborate ?

I think we are forgetting just how old this system is..

The hell with the popular vote. The electoral college was put in place to keep the UNEDUCATED, ILLITERATE, and STUPID (if the shoe fits wear it) from determing the president.

I am not intersted in a president picked by the residents of New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles--areas populated largely by people on the dole from the federal government who pay no taxes, didn't serve in the military, and have no consept of the ideals and strengths that have made this country great and that is not a slam against ANY MINORITY except that group that perfers a free handout to working.

What can I say noel, your words are sooo true; the Electoral College is THE WAY TO GO!

 

If you want the popular vote to decide just look at the below map. You only have to campaign in the east and the far west (the areas in red)totally disenfraching most of America where all the food is grown, most of the manufacturing is done, and most of the refining is done. Not my idea of American.

 

I don't think they even realize, that their backs are to the oceans!

 

So like where is the Mason/Dixon Line on that map or something?
