Hi Trackboy,

The first thing I would suggest is that you do "proper" back-to-back comparisons on the same day, make sure you are not comparing times and/or speeds run at any other time, as they are not applicable. No 2 days are going to be consistent enough just in atmospheric conditions alone to make valid comparisons, to say nothing of all the other factors that vary from one day to the next and consequently skew the results. This is the single most common mistake people typically make, meaning comparing ET's & mph run on different occasions, different days in other words, to try an evalute what their modifications have done for their performance.

Of course I don't know if you are doing that or not, I'm just pointing this out for your consideration, ok?

Anytime we want track results and before & after numbers, we use a format of 3 runs, stock, chipped, and then stock again, same day, each run separated by a 30 minute cool-down time to stabilize powertrain termperatures, so this all happens within a 90-minute period. Also, you must disconnect the battery, with the headlights on to drain residual voltage for 5 full minutes each time you change programs, meaning when you install the Superchip, *and* when you remove it. Doing this procedure for the battery disconnect is critical, as if you do not fully clear the computers memory, then you don't get a complete fresh program "load", and consequently the new program doesn't take full effect, but instead, it will only gradually come into effect as the new instructions slowly overwrite what is in the computers memory, and you don't get valid data.

The bottom line is that to make valid comparisons, you need to establish your "baseline" performance (meaning how the truck runs that day without the Superchip and the pulley) *every* single time you go to the track, *if* you want to make valid comparisons of exactly what those mods are doing for you each time you go to the track. Comparing times & speeds run at another time doesn't give you any good data in terms of what your modifications are actually dong for you each time you go to the track, and doing that 3-run format as I've described will get you the best possible data on the same day for valid comparisons.

As a matter of fact, with every Superchip we ship here at Performance Products for the Lightning, we send out our "drag racing tips sheet for Lightning owners", describing the proper back-to-back testing procedure, which also includes your staging technique as well (as it must!), for the absolute best possible consistency, so that other factors affecting ET & speed can be effectively minimized, as must be done for real "testing" & valid comparisons. The whole idea being to know just exactly what your mods are actually doing for you, so that you can properly quantify that the chip is giving you "x", and the pulley is giving you "x" in terms of the exact difference in performance with and without each of those mods, or any others you want to track the results of.

If you would like to give us a call and go over this, and your results, we'd be happy to speak with you.

Good luck!

Mike Troyer,I have a R9 superchip for my 00 Lightning.I've been experiencing pinging in third gear and I've heard a very slight ping at the top end of second before it shifts. It does it with 93 octane gas and I have to run octane booster to keep it at bay.The only mod that was done to the truck when the chip was installed was a muffler.I've since made my own induction setup with a K&N cone filter,it is similar to a Airraid setup.I did not do any memory clearing when I installed the chip,it was only out long enough to do the work to the circiut board(which may have been long enough).I have had the chip in for a little over two weeks and I've run 3 tanks of gas through it also. What gives?I'm fixing to get it reprogramed, unless theres something I'm missing. Thanks Mike

I got more MPH and lower ET from my PSP chip. Went from a 14.3@98 to a 13.9@101.

I have since changed to a Swanson chip due to detonation problems with the PSP chip and have not gotten to the track yet.

Thanks for the info guys i think the problem may be the fact that i did not give the program enough time. I still feel i have a problem other L's are pulling on me hard in the last 200 feet could it be that i'm over spinning the blower.

Hi TwinTurbo,

I'd say to give us a call and let's go over all the details on everything before you decide to change the program. We're here 10am-7pm, M-F, Eastern, and we'll be happy to go over all of this with you.
