Question '99 Lightning with dead battery

I have a relative new battery but after runing the truck awhile it goes dead.
There are no warnings light on etc.
How can I check the alternator to see if that is it. I'm not sure I can get to a parts store and back. Don't want to tow the truck again if I can avoid it.

Has anyone replace the alternator on a Lightning..is it difficult requiring any special tools etc. ?

Please help if you can.

autozone, advanced auto parts, etc can all check the alternator by hooking it up to the diagnostics tester..

but its hard to have it checked if you can't or don't want to drive the truck! Also to remve it isn't the easiest thing to do on the L's. have teh battery tested and if it test good then the chances are that its your alternator- keep in mid its not an aboslute but the alternator is the most likely culprit.
