Talking Lightning Drag wheel and slick

Someone asked about drag wheels and slicks in another thread and I just received a few photos from Jim Ritter so I thought that I would post them. These are his 15 inch drag wheels and Goodyear slicks.

Oh BA,
Don't do this to me right before Christmas and making me sin too. I covet your rear wheels and tires.

I just did a search and saw your ram air system. It looks very neat and clean. Nice job. If it were not for Jim sending some of his photos to me I do not think that I would have posted.

Is that a wing in his bed?

Tires look small compared to wheel well. Would have thought he would be running 28-30" dia slicks with 15" wheels.
A wing? Could have used that in my 247.25 MPH pass last weekend, hehehe.

Later BA

Way to go Jim, looks real good. I'd like to see a nice burnout pic.

1BADTK those ARE 28" slicks. Just compare the fronts and rears in the pic they are about the same. Just looks to me like he hasn't done any lowering with his truck.

Are any mods req'd to the truck other than the rims for this setup?

LightningDammit,

You need wheel adaptors I don't know if they are still available. You also need the Basset racing wheels. And yes you also need to shave the calipers or rotors, I believe only a very small amount of material needs to be removed, I haven't set mine up yet.

Here is some information.
You can purchase the wheels from Bassett Wheel and the adapters are available from A1 Racing, based on a drawing that I provided to them. The quick and dirty way to get up and running is to cut down the caliper and remove the emergency brake backing plate. Though I mentioned this, I do not recommend it(too much material is removed from the caliper). The other method is to machine down the rotor, caliper, caliper mounting bracket and the backing plate. This way you remove the stack up from the braking hardware to wheel clearance without creating a critical dimension in one component. Will this work? Yes. Others are running this wheel combination, I have build it but I do not think that your vehicle manufacture would give it a recomendation.
