Rearview Mirror Replacement
I have been looking for a replacement rearview mirror for my L. I stumbled across an article at NASCAR.COM about the different types of rearview mirrors the drivers use. Here is a link to one that looks promising. http://www.allviewimage.com/
Has anyone installed this?
Thanks

Wow, no one has ever takled about rear view mirrors. Not in that sense anyways. Its more like "that vette was in the rear view" or something.
Whats next? First different topic in a couple of weeks.

Under their "Products" section they imply it's glass. I'll e-mail them and will check out G-Buy possibilities also.

Wow,
That totally looks like it belongs in some old mans Grand marquis (in florida of course).
If you want a new mirror why not go with an electrochromatic one.

I have a "wider angle" anti-dazzle mirror on my rear-view mirror and its pretty good. That one looks way to wide though.
You have to consider, we have a regular cab truck with a short bed, so no rear cabin. In that rear view, it wouldn't increase your actually field of view that much because what is seen as "out the back passenger window" there would be you looking at yourself in our trucks.
I'd say just go with a smaller field of view anti-dazzle or go with the elctrochromatic. The smaller antidazzles go for aroung $45, tne elctro one is like $190 and has temp/compass in it.

A mirror that big would be a bit of a distraction. And you'd have to drive around watching yourself drive. If you tint your rear window dark enough a mirror doesn't do you much good anyway.
Anybody try using one of the auto dimming mirrors, like the ones in the Explorer?

Thanks for the pic. Is that a tri-section mirror and where did you buy it?

Allview does say that you have to adjust your seat to take yourself out of the view.

I've just put one of those Gentex Electrochromatic mirrors in my L. It works great. I was worried that the tinted rear window wouldn't trigger it to darken, but it works exactly like it should.

Mark_2kL - What did you wire it up to and how did you hide the wires?

The mirror only draws 1.1A at the most during transition, so I tossed the ugly and bulky wiring harness that came with it and used 24 gauge wire inside a piece of clear shrink-wrap tube. I soldered the wire directly to the terminals on the mirror and made a small cover out of ABS for the hole where the connector would be. Then I just formed the wire so it went from the base of the mirror up to the headliner and wired it to the compass/thermometer power. I had already routed a wire from the back-up lights to the bed light, so I didn't have to go far for the auto-lighten wire on the mirror. And just to add my own personal touch again, I wired it so it would lighten the mirror when the dome light is turned on.
I've become so methodical with the things I do to this truck that it takes me forever to do even the simplest things. But it pays off in the end.
