Angry Anybody have problems with the R9 chip pinging?

I put the chip in about a week ago and it pinged in third gear.I called the place I got it from and they suggested I run a few tanks through it since winter just started here and something in the gas is changed from summer to winter.Well thats a little understandable but I don't want to have to worry about it at all.I use 93 octane gas and the only other mod is my induction(which is similiar to a Airraid),but it did it before I did this.I did run some NOS octane boost though it and it went away.It sounds like to much timing to me,but has anybody else had this problem. Thanks Mike

With a Pro-M MAF, yes it pinged in third using 94 octane. PSP filter kit, no ping.

Mine does it, but so does my PSP chip. 99 octane, or the NOS octane boost makes it go away on both chips. I do have a Pro-M though. I am waiting to see if Johnny Lightning is gonna do a reburn for the Pro-M. If not, I will probably get Houston Performance do a chip.

Well I always seem to have bad luck with these kind of things. The NOS octane boost cures it but thats a extra $10 per tank.I guess I'll have to get a reburn. On a positive note I did throw some NOS in this evening and I went and raced my friends LS1 Firebird. It ran a 13.50/105 at the track last time out with the exhaust open. He's done a few more mods since then and of course he had the exhaust open tonight.I felt that I would lose ,but I'd give him a good race.First off his way from a roll,we both spun me more than him,but I lost by about two car lengths.I wasn't frowning,I just asked from a standstill please. It was the other way around this time,me by two car lengths. We tried two other times I spun real bad once and never got a race on and the other time I spun bad again, but I leaped forward and he finally caught me.I was really impressed with my truck given the conditions.I feel I'll be able to get those 13.40's or 30's.Anyway I thought I'd share that. Thanks Mike

Hey Mike,

I guarantee you that your truck runs low-13s. I wish we had a 1/4 mile track close by that stayed open this time of year. We FINALLY get some good racing weather in TX and the tracks are all closed. I'd be thrilled to run when its 40^F outside and the barometer reads 30.30" right now!!

I'd venture high-12s or 13.0s on F1s would be had at Hallsville.

WA 2 FST, do you think low 13's for real?He felt 13.90's or so which I really didn't understand giving the fact that I beat him by two car lengths and I feathered the gas pretty good in first to stop spinning.Oh well give me a track and I'll know for sure.If it was really a 13.90 truck he should've blew by me big time, but he couldn't catch me and he admitted that it would've been a ways doen the road.Hey where is Allen at anyway?I was thinking that Ennis might be open?Anyway I hope you're right on the times.By the way ,my Ranger block is a two bolt, with studs throughout. It's all I could afford at the time.

Twin

Wes is right there are about 4 - 8 DFW Lightning owners that get togther at the track pretty regular. At a track with good traction like Hallsville every L with your mods runs 13.5 or below. And those times were in HOT weather. There are 2 guys who run in the 13.2 range pretty often. Just like Wes I am dreaming about putting a timimg light to the power my L is making in this 40-50 degree weather. Both Hallsville and Ennis open in February. A couple Guys are talking about a trip to Strip on OK this weekend check the Thunder Valley, Oklahoma threads.

If you check my website you can see pics of the last trips to Hallsville and the Trophies the guys won

Hopefully the next time yall go to Hallsville I'll be able to meet up with you guys.I feel pretty conifident that I can run at least 13.50's or 40's it's just kinda hard to back it up with no time slips.By the way how do you get of the line with these radials?I acted like there was a egg under the pedal but still spun pretty good.I guess I'm just going to have to wait for the track.

Mike,

Allen is just north of Plano, so I'm about 30 miles NE of Dallas. As far as launching on F1s...everytime I've been to the track when its prepped, launching is easy. I cut consistent 1.92-1.95 60' times, feathering the throttle initially and then hammering it about 15-20' out.

Now that the temps have come down, mine lights up the tires anytime I get on the throttle in 1st gear...on anything but the newest and most virgin concrete we have around here. But in the summer I could just plant it and it'd spin some but not uncontrollably.
