I sure hope GM doesn't think they can compare "apples to oranges", cause that truck is going to cost around 50-60K, and I'm sure Ford will answer right back with "another" vehicle to fit a new class. The Lightning is "perfection" for the niche it serves.

Perhaps GM will find a way to build, and sell the SS for a price closer to that of the Lightning? *LOL @ GM..... yeah right*

I don't know but I think that truck looks pretty bada$$. If I ever saw one at a dealer and I did test drive it and it did impress me I might consider getting one. But can they even make that truck. 480 hp from a lS1 is alot from the factory. See thats what pissing me off about ford. They make heads and new crazy perts for the 4.6 and the 5.8 but there ain't di*k out there four the 5.4. I want crazy sick horsepower and everybody just think a chip will make me happy. well I'm sorry I want more. This motor should be able to put out atleast 500 horsepower no problem and probably even make about 700 with the blower, but nobody wants to make the parts. Well I hope someone sends that article over to ford so they can answer back and possible make some parts for this truck. There are alot of us L owners out there and no magazine dedicated to this truck. Whats wrong with this picture. now I;m going to be mad for the rest of the day thinking about this truck. And it doesn't matter what the truck cost, its all about the title. you never here somone say yeah that maclaren f1 is fast but for 1,000,000.00 thats crazy, the corvette is a better buy cause it might be slower but its fast enough. No you don't here that. When you read about the fastest car in the world, money has nothing to do with it anymore. Fords gonna mess up again. Must make more hp.

RTKILLA,

How do you think DOHC 4.6 owners feel (Cobra/Mark VIII)? The Cobra is supposedly the flagship vehicle of Ford and there are ZERO aftermarket parts for it...and its been around in the Cobra since '96.

Sure there are people who will take and arm and a leg from you to do lots of custom work on the heads/cams, etc, but there are very few _promises_ of power gains from all that.

In reality, if you want a motor you can pull heads off of and do lots of work to (without spending insane amounts of $$), then you're stuck with the 5.0 or 5.8 pushrod motors...a thing of the past.

There was a guy I met Saturday, has a 99 Chevy 4x4 full size, 5.3L LS1 with a Whipple Blower at 6PSI, and 4.10 gears, and slicks

There are witnesses that he runs 12.5@107-111 range...

That makes me mad!!

(with a 50 shot, he said he ran a 12.47 acting as an intercooler)

I'm not to hot on that unibody design...but to each his own.

Does anyone know if it is going to be a production truck?

Personally, I think the one they announced off of the 8500 series motor was more impressive.

Wink

thats T&M motorsports, he said he had about 8700.00 in mods. heard he blew his rear end on one of those 12 sec runs. stock parts do not hold up to that much fun.

Good point.. RELIABILITY!!

Anyone can make a car go fast.. Heck, I have seen people with 2.3 4 bangers in pintos run in the 11's.. Anything is possible.. but what about reliability..

Some of these cars are pushing the envelope.. I can take the L out, beat on it pretty good.. and it still purs like a kitty..

Dollar for dollar and part for part.. We have ourselves a nice little truck.. ( But we allready know this )

Hmmmm, I gotta' admit...I like it. It looks pretty schweet! But it begs the questions: How much(Guessin' around 50k),how fast/quick?
How many? Is GM really gonna' make it?

Well I guess time will tell on all counts.

I'm a 'Chevy guy', but I was totally impressed by the Gen2 Lightnings. I sold my FIRST car, a cherry '76 Vette, to buy my L. GM can build awesome machines when under the gun. Apparently, they feel under the gun by these new L's, such as I did which prompted the sale of my Vette. If they mass produce these new SS's, we're gonna have some fun and probably lose a few races.

Here's the good part - I don't think they'll build or sell many. I'd be willing to bet a new Z06 Vette is cheaper. And, I'll bet the SS breaks alot of drivetrain parts. Plus, it doesn't have that race-ready 'look' the L does. In my opinion, it almost looks like a funked-up ricer. The bad part is I didn't read where it was supercharged - it looks normally aspirated. Think of a bolt-on Powerdyne for that one.

P.S. Did anyone look at the cam specs and head configuration for the SS? Too bad we're dealing with the Expediton induction system. Really, how much more would it cost to go the Cobra route. That's the beef I have with our engines being a Chevy guy. If it's made to run, then, da**it, make it run.

I saw that truck at the SEMA show and talked to John Moss about it . It will not be built. Coolva...I owned a 99 Z71 Silverado with a Whipplecharger and sold it to get a Lightning. There is no comparison between the two. I'm guessing the Z71 would run maybe mid 14's. You guys can Bitch about what you think Ford should have done to the Lightning but what would you be stuck driving if there wasn't one ? Yes they may have a Clunk and a Intercooler leak problem but if you had the choice to wait for a year or two until it was trouble free or get one early and have a Bitchin Truck would you wait ? I prefer that clunk to any alternative vehicles out there. Thanks for building it SVT.
