For those of you with factory tonneaus...
I am planning on replacing mine witha roll top as soon as I quit with performance mods. However, the performance mod list just seems to go on forever.
The way the corners stick up and make little wings in the back was REALLY driving me crazy. I got to looking at it, and noticed that they stick up more in coler weather. I started wondering if some how lengthening the cover might alleviate the problem. Just couldn't figure out a way...
I also decided to cut off the little helper handles, and in doing so, realized that you could loosen the cover by trimming the plastic strip that tucks in.
I figured that if I screwed it up, so what! I was tired of looking at those wings, and explaining the problem to admirers of the truck. I figured I'd just remove/ replace it sooner than planned.
So I trimmed the plastic approx. 1/8". The results were great! Take a look!

I've got one, and it started craking near the tail end 6 months ago, gonna take it in for a new one. The other day I rolled mine up, put the gate bar in the center, and off I went. Realized later-on that I should have taken it back out, so now I have to get a new one.
My corners never looked that flush. Maybe in the middle.

Lightning: Looks GREAT! I gotta do that too...
Are you talking about the stiff plastic peice on the underside of the that goes into the rail? Did you cut it in the back or on the sides?
Did you trim 1/8" for the whole width of the piece or less??
Thanks!

Yes, the stiff plastic piece... I actually trimmed the entire length 1/8"... I thought that it might look better with a little more cut off, but I was worried that it might get too loose. So, from the corner to about 6 inches towards the middle, I cut an additional 1/8", feathering the cut for that 6" length. This second cut didn't make as much difference as the original, so I just left it at that.
I would recommend the first cut, put it in place, and verify if you need the second.
Before the trim job, mine stuck up about 1/2 an inch further...
Glad I could help!

I found the manufacturer and delt with them directly. I gave them my input on the things I thought were wrong with it. The 3rd one is great. They made it a little looser and reworked the way they did the straps. You guys that have problems should go back to the dealer with them. I have had this one since the spring and it is fine.
