Think of everything that would have to be done. Find a transmission that would take the torque and doesn't shift like the big truck it came out of. The clutch, bell housing, starter, pedal and linkage issues. Then there's the different length driveshaft and reprogramming the computer. Are we having fun yet? I think the auto trans works far better than I thought it would. Maybe we should come up with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters for our autos to control it better, like the ones on the Mustang they let us drive at the Dearborn SVT event in August.

Bulldog,

I met a guy at the '99 Fun Ford Weekend Weekend in Norwalk, Ohio that converted his Gen 1 L to a manual. He used a Tremec 3550 and a shift handle from a 55 chevy truck (I think). However, he used a mass air computer from a 5.0 as locating one for a 95 Cobra R was tricky. It looked pretty cool but ran like dookie.

I'm not the only one having problems with your posts. If you had half a brain you would try to solve the problem instead of making more problems. Lloyd

Tundra, what do you see? All I can see is that Lloyd's got a bug, Bulldog loves it and that several other people think Lloyd should get a vasectomy.

I don't think a manual trans swap would be that hard. You can get an aftermarket hydraulic clutch setup and transmission. The Richmond gear ROD six speeds run about $3000 but you might find and old ford top loader at a swap meet (they can definately take the power). The only thing is you might have to do something with the seat, it might get in the way of using a good short throw shifter.

Automatics, done right, are faster through the quarter. Anyway, in the corners it's hard to compete with the "F" bodies and the C5s. Keep the auto and don't butcher a limited production, collectable and already very fast vehicle.
