Post Exhaust Noise

This is my first post to the board and I wish to thank everyone for all of their insight and advice thus far. I have a 2000L that I recently (this week), installed a r9 chip and Airaid. Both mods are excellent as discribed many times on this board. my question is that i have developed a distinct rattle rattle when the l is cold under part throttle excelaration. The noise disapears when the l warms up after a few mins and cannot be made to repeat until cold again. Truck has 4000.00 miles on it, is this an exhaust rattle or something to be more concerned about. Thanks in advance for any input

From what you've described, that sounds like the same thing a few of us have experienced. Chip in, the truck rattles at about 3,000 rpm before a shift when cold. Chip out, mine is silent. I don't know why it does this but hasn't hurt anything so far. I believe LTNBOLT has the same thing going on.

trqdaddy,
Hey! glad to hear from someone close by. I'm in W-S. I'd like to meet up sometime and talk and look at trucks. Mine (No chip-YET) had a rattle every time I would stop at a light--found exhaust tips to be loose. Tightened them up and it went away. Don't know if this is same rattle as you have or not...

No, I think the rattle he is refering to is the one that was raised in the Flutter/Rattle thread that was about sixty pages long.

Anyway, yes the rattle is common. An yes, it is accentuated by the R9 chip. Can possibly be dulled by the installation of NGK plugs, and no, I don't like it. I think that Superchips may have uncovered a new can of worms, but are not saying much about it. IMHO

Cool

gforce,

So, it went away when you pulled the R9. I need to try that myself to see what happens.

Same here, just did the R9 install Tuesday of this week. The noise is at part throttle just as the transmission is at the shift point when changing out of first. After everthing warms up it almost disappears. I had not really associated it with the exhaust system however. It seems to have toned down a little as I'm getting more miles since the install. Wonder if it has anything to do with line pressure to the transmission? Any thoughts Mike Troyer?

My '99 would do it at 3,000 RPM when cold and at 4,000 RPM when it warmed up. It was sensitive to throttle inflection and would only do it under load. Never found out what caused it.
