NEW L. What to Know, What to do..
NEW L. What to Know, What to do..
I have been looking through the forum here, and elsewhere, and thave read alot, but I am not sure where to begin...
I just bought an 01 L for 17K. 45K Miles... I love it.. but its bone stock except for the K&N Filter that was in it...
One thing that worrys me is this blown spark plug i have been hearing about... is there any way to prevent this? and they also say if you hear an exhaust leak, it could be a precursor to blowing out a plug and needing a new head? ?? I have a tad bit of a ticking sound on acceleration... so that worries me...
Aside from that, what else to look for when looking for problems?
now I am a turbo guy, and used to have a 13 sec 4.2 over at v6f150.com. So i am interested in the bottom end of the 5.4 SC. is this the exact same bottoom end as any other 5.4? with just a blower on it? also, I am not familiar with how you increase boost on these things... Something about the weight and size of the pulley? what is stock? I know it runs at 8 psi boost, so what would it take to run it at 10 or 12? I have an xcalibrator 2 from my old truck that i used for road tuning my 4.2 when turboed.. can i get a new pulley and have a tune ordered from somebody or should I have it dyno tuned?
All your guys help is appreciated....
Thank You

Good job on picking up the L.
First off, the plug problem. The best way is to just make sure your plugs are tight and keep checking them periodically.
Go with a 4lb pulley and a tune. When you get the pulley you will want to change the plugs to NKG TR6's. You should be able to use your XCAL2, you just need some dyno tuning. Power Surge Performance can hook you up. www.lightningparts.com

As for the plug issue, I swap them once a year this for me handles tightning the plugs, to increase boost they have both upper/blower pulleys and lower/crank pulleys to increase boost, next the lower end- the rods are the weak link anything after 450HP and your on borrowed time. Good luck, T

do i need a new tune if I put on a 4lb bottom pulley? if I get a larger top pulley, what is tha advantages/disadvantages of this?
are the lightnings blowing out plugs left and right like it sounds? or is this just people that aren't as cautious as some that have that problem?
Thanks
For your first mods, do a 4lb lower, programmer w/custom tune, cold air intake and a FTVB, this is a nice simple package next I'd add a catback, traction bars and an efan-while these won't really add power they add a fun factor.

this iscreases the firmness of the shifts and is a great addition to help alleviate the sloppy and granny like stock shifts. If you want it to chirp the tires on a 1-2 upshift, this is the ticket to do so.
