Super chip
Hi Jeff,
You're going to love what the Superchip does for your Lightning.
Once you install it and see the power levels, you may or may not feel the need for further mods. It's funny, about 2%-5% of Lightning owners will do everything from gears to nitrous, to torque converters, you name it, but the vast majority of Lightning owners tend to do 2 things; a good chip and a good intake kit.
With regards to ignition mods, they are not big power-adders, so you might want to give that some thought. Ignition mods are not something that you usually pick up significant seat-of-the-pants perfomance gains from; they usually deliver improved throttle response, at best a few more horsepower, and a bit better gas mileage, they just not the typical mods you do for "power gains", is what I'm trying to say.
There are pulleys to increase the boost level, and underdrive pulleys to reduce parasitic losses from turning accessories such as the alternator, etc. You can convert over to electric cooling fans and pick up some power. You can pull off some of the intake & supercharger plumbing and open them up by the usual porting methods or send them out to Extrude-Hone, etc. Or add a set of headers, they work well on the Lightnings.
It all gets down to just how much more performance you feel you need, after installing the Superchip and driving it for awhile. We generally advise waiting a month after installing the Superchip to do other mods, just so you have a really good feel for exactly what the Superchip did for you, to help you decide if you need more performance or not. Short of nitrous, it's by far the single best power-gainer you can install on this truck in terms of bang-for-the-buck, and who knows, you may find that you have plenty of performance once it's installed. The Superchip adds a minimum of 40+ hp at the flywheel, and the Airaid is worth another 18, so between the 2, you've picked up about 60 horsepower. For most Lightning owners that's plenty, but for others, it's merely the beginning.
Good luck, & have fun!
