Well well well.... I just got a call from the mechanic. He is getting the new heads in next Friday.. Then 2- 3 days to get her back together, tune, etc.... and I hope to get her back by the end of the month or earlier.. that is the good news.. The not so good news is the Bill... approx 10,000 - 10,500... Ugh!
That is including 2 new rods, pistons, heads, going to put all new bearings in, labor, bla bla bla.. so yea that is the bottom line.

right

When you click the starter, one of the other cylinders can fire right away, adding quite a bit of power/torque to what the starter motor and battery were already providing.

The motor can fire one cylinder and hydro-lock another in 1/4 turn of the crank. It would seem to the driver it did not start.
Right, that would mean the engine fired........right?

It could hydro lock yes, bend an h beam rod........not on your life.

I'm glad this guy is happy with the outcome. I'd be stoked if I bought a truck with a built motor and not even a week later was throwing thousands at it because of some mysterious circumstance.

Funny how he's willing to sweep it all under the rug and just fix and it get it over with.

If i was a detective, that would red flag me man.

I'm pulling his card and saying he knows what happened and isnt' saying. Not debating the pin hole theory. It's getting fixed and your happy, but.

YOU DIDN'T BEND A ROD AND DAMAGE ANOTHER BY TRYING TO CRANK OVER A HYDRO LOCKED MOTOR.

If you believe that, I have some ocean front property in Nebraska to sell you.

Glad it's getting fixed. We'll never know the real story. But if you don't want people talking about your buisness, keep it off the boards. That's the whole point of a message board in case you didn't know.

haha

no ****. Could have just dropped a NEW built shortblock in it for that!!!!

This whole story is about as fishy as ..............well, it would probably get edited so i'll save the moderator the effort.

I'm calling foul on this whole thing.

Now the guy is changing rods, bearings, and slapping on a new set of heads for 11k.

Jesus Christ. I'm feeling like i'm watching the Departed again.

Everyone is in on this.

Next we are gonna find out that Rob sent him some money behind the scenes and tried to keep it hush hush. Hahahaha.

So the characters in the story is Rob, this guy Chi town, the tire place, a possible tow truck driver, and now this mechanic.

The good news is the bill is 10-11k dollars? How much did you just pay for the truck?? And you aren't upset or bitching about any of it. Come on now.

Foul I say!

There's gotta be something wrong with that price...

$2000 for new heads (being generous)
$600 for an entire SET of rods
$900 for an entire SET of pistons
$2000 labor to R&R the motor (I assume they pulled the motor, although I can R&R studded heads in the truck, most people don't)
$1000 extra labor for whatever (again, being generous)

That's only $6500, and WAY high on estimating.
