Just like old times, a little JDM drama brought to you by a JLP nutswinger.

Wow, I wish I had the time to go looking up stuff that has nothing to do with me and try to start crap on a forum for no reason.

I believe a lot of that project involves 1 off parts being constructed. Eight months is nothing for a very involved project of that type.

Just my opinion but I can't see why you care so much that you would want to wast your time posting it.

JDM do a hell of a lot of good work for the now obsolete Lightnings.

JDM is one of the few vendors still supporting this forum.

What's so involved with supercharging a 3V truck motor...I could order a kit from Saleen, Rousch, Whipple or KB tomorrow and be on my merry way in under a week. Outside of that it's essentially a rebuild (no magic in the GT block these days) with ported 3V heads and a tranny/TC/driveshaft.

Do a search through the Lightning forum and see what you find...

Bill (hdmlnium) had a Lightning that JDM was putting a 4V motor in...granted it hadn't been done before but they had Bill's truck for over a year. I don't know if Bill sold it to JDM as a shop truck or what happened but they finally ended up putting a 2V motor in it and Bill, in frustration I imagine, ended up without his 4V conversion or truck.

Vinnie has had his truck there for over a year waiting on a GT block/4V conversion...and it's still not done.

There are now several 4V Lightning conversions running around including a one-man shop that created his own, so it obviously can be done.

You've now got Rafa's experience...and, while I appreciate the explanation that a number of parts had to be outsourced, created from scratch, etc., the aluminum GT blocks have been available, with the necessary machine work done, from vendors (including JDM) for over a year now. Some of the brackets, etc. look like either Ford factory parts or cryptically have 'Rousch' stamped on them. Blowers for 3V applications have been out for a while now too...there's no magic in the conversion since the truck had 3V heads to begin with. You could've ordered a blower from KB or Whipple for a 3V truck a year ago. The 'black magic' being performed isn't 'magic' after all.

Sadly this is a pattern with JDM and in hindsight maybe Rafa should have had a contract drawn up with performance and delivery clauses that would have provided for monetary penalties for missing said numbers and/or dates.

Before you think I'm a JDM hater, I will give them credit for the work they've done on Lightnings and I'll still say their motor program is one of the best out there. Their parts, while commanding a premium over similar parts from other vendors, are also usually OEM-like in fit and finish and I even own a few JDM parts (except for the air temp sensor for a replacement filter that I was promised by Jim III and still don't have a year later).

What's that infamous saying...caveat emptor.

More of the same from JDM. I've seen these types of posts time and again since i joined in early 2004. Even though they have all the 10 sec DD's running around i dunno man......maybe RAFA just didn't spend quite enough cash to get into that special JDM 'family'. haha......whatever

JDM built my 03 cobra. Far and away the best car I have ever owned. 594rwhp on a daily driver through all 4 seasons in Massachusetts. Drove the car for ~20k miles making that kind of power with no issues what so ever. Sold car to someone in MO. He flew in and drove the car 27 hours home with no issues. If only they started tuning SRT vehicles I would give them a lot more business. A top notch company in my book and I would trust them when any vehicle. Jim's tuning abilities are nothing short of amazing. Yes I am a very very happy JDM customer!!! Again if only they would start tuning SRT hopefully they will some day as ford has killed SVT.

Money it's not an issue for Rafa man, what matters here is respect and honesty for the customer.

JDM, put a motor, whipple, fuel system , bts trans. ,true trac rear end. and ground down the calipers to fit 15 inch bogarts on all 4s. This was done in june of 2006 . We got there on monday morning with a blown up Lightning. We left there saturday afternoon with a 10 sec. Lightning. 6 Days from start to finish! Plus they closed on friday and we all went to Englishtown for the NHRA race. This includes driving it around town to put some miles on the motor and spending most of Saturday on the dyno. We drove up from florida to get this done 3000 miles round trip. Their work is top notch and their attention to detail is perfect .
Jim will not let that Lincoln leave his shop untill its perfect, thats just the way he is.

Two sides to every story Virilha...

Were you there when these events took place, was Rafa? Does everyone body when some of the parts actually arrived or the actual details...dont think so....

Seems like a lot of variables are missing

I understand Rafa's frustration.. but im sure there are parts of the story that are being left out, there always are.

And as for your comment about no complaints about JLP... you are wrong... there have been posts about every vendor and bad situations their customers have been in....Nobody is perfect and they all do good work...somtimes things just go wrong

So why try and stir *****....grow up man

Well said. This is "Hot Rodding" things take time, thats just the way it is. I would rather wait longer and have a vehicle that is well constructed and reliable. JDM specialise in very well built fast and reliable daily drivers.
