Arrow to HIGH ROLLER

I have a R9 along with JL program I can tell you that these chips are very close on shifting and performance.I prefer the JL chip because I tested these chips at the track and on my g-tech the JL was about 1/2 to 1 tenth stronger than R9. I was 5 tenths faster with JL program and 4 tenths faster with R9 over stock program. Both great chips!
The JL is a Superchip using the R9 as its program. Therefore, wouldn't Mike Troyer"s and JohnnyL's chip be the exact same chip developed by the same tuner?? Maybe Johnny has a slight variance in program that he has asked for, but I would doubt it.

Maybe the variance in the slight difference in chip times at the strip could be that you burped just before launch?

Not trying to start a flame. Just trying to figure out if I'm now going to have to purchase a JL chip also?

Jim, hate to bust in on someones question. But from my understanding, the JL chip is a tweaked version of the R9. Tweaked in the sense of slightly more firm shifting. But JL, or anyone else with the chip(s) could add a little light here, please do.

You and BlackBolt99 are absolutely correct it is a R9 tweaked just a little more firmer shifting and I believe a little more timing at the top end.I noticed between the two my 60ft. was identical and my 1/8 mile was the same but from 1/8 mile to 1/4 the JL chip was 1/2 to 1 tenth faster each pass! Also my speed was .75 to 1MPH higher.I made at least 4 passes with each. And my friend Jeff has a 00 L and he will confirm the same information. One more thing JL's chip does is that the overdrive stays off at lower speeds or cruising speeds up to 48MPH which I like alot! All in all both of these chips are highly recommended.Hope this helps!

HIGH ROLLER

Thanks for the input. I was one of the first to get the R9 and I love it but I wondered what the difference was between the two

Thanks

Jim,

I've had both the R9 and JL's version. Have not been to the track but can tell you my truck never "pinged" with an R9 on inferior gas. JL's version of the R9 made my truck ping slightly with inferior gas, whereas the R9 would run without ping on 87. I know.... why did I run 87 anyway. Because 93 got real expensive for a while and MY truck didn't mind the 87. It actually ran very well. Now with JL's chip I am forced to run 93. Also, it shifts into overdrive a little later than the R9 did.

I see. It looks like the JL is just pushed a little further, right to the edge to get max performance.

This brings up a question I've had for a while. My "R9" flip chip for my 99 is side 1 CUX1R9 and side 2 CUX1TraxR9. Mine does not ping on either side but side 2 does not allow overdrive until 48-50 at even the slightest throttle. Side 2 also surges slightly above 40 until it allows OD to engage, I guess due to the leaner curve. So which is the the R9 program, and if side one is, do I have the JL enhanced program on side 2? I couldn't be happier with the performance gain with the airaid and fabricated x pipe in place of the muffler. Traction is now a serious problem. Due to cold weather, if I now nail it from the start it will smoke through second, and sometimes doesn't hookup until well into third.
