First trip to the strip
Well, I decided to go to Famoso anyway, yesterday, in spite of the intercooler leak and the fact that I couldn't get any other So. Cal. wienies to go with me.
Although billed as just a test and tune and street legal the track was very crowded since it was the last meet of the year and they don't open again til April, I was told. Lots of trailer queens, and they had bracket racing, so I only got in four runs from 9 to 3. Apparently conditions were not that great either, the air was warm and barometer low, and the regulars told me they were running a couple tenths slower than their best times. Anyway, my times were extremely consistent, from 13.389 (best) to 13.525 (worst). Trap speeds were consistent, too, from 101.59 (tailgate up) to 102.54. Dropping tailgate is good for 1 mph. I am not going to bother to scan my slips, but here is synopsis of best run:
R/T .... .672
60' ... 1.977
330 .... 5.578
1/8 ... 8.575
MPH .... 81.52
1000 .. 11.186
1/4 .... 13.389
MPH ...102.54
I was a little disappointed. I was hoping to get deeper into the 13s, or even into the 12s, but conditions were not that great, and I did not do anything special, didn't even change the tire pressures. Wanted to see what it would do in street trim. I hope that I will have the intercooler fixed by the next time I go. I'll take my ball hitch off, put more air in the front and less in the rears, and ice water in the intercooler, and see if I do any better. I also think I can gain a couple of tenths by power braking instead of launching off idle. There were three 'vettes running, and my times were considerably better than two of them
. The other was running a 150 hp shot, and he ran 11.8. There was also one other Lightning there. He was bone stock, and running 14.1s. He was a regular, and in the bracket racing. He broke out at 14.12. Told me that under ideal conditions he ran 13.9s. So, although I would have liked to have done better, I think with a healthy truck and a few small changes, under good conditions I can still get close to the magic 12s, even on F1s.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
