I heard that Alot of the really fast L's (like illness) are EXTREMELY PISSED that have been dumping $$$ inot their rides to compete in this class for a long time now
We gotta write letters.....we got some thunderbirds with 5.4's and LOTSA 4.6's running in the 12's and 13's who are REALLY pissed

Go check out www.funford.com and look at the new rules for Mod Motor. If you ain't a Mustang, you ain't welcome.

Looks like the rule don't change until 2002. Guess it's time to start modding the Cobra instead of the L. If I could just get one 12 second run in the L first...

Is the "Top Truck" on that web site a new class to calm down Lightning owners? Why are they doing this? Kinda' looks like the L's are out in the cold against ALL the other modular motor competion.

Badbolt,
Top Truck is the class that is sponsored by NLOC and has been around for a while now. The purses aren't nearly what Ford can afford for Mod Motor, but NLOC does pay points champions for the season. I know this because I was the presenter for NLOC at the FFW Banquet this year and handed out the awards.
NLOC is the National Lightning Owner's Club and more info can be found at www.nloc.org

I dont know much about this event and how its structured, but surely they have sponsors that help donate purses and prizes and such. The best way to make a point would be to complain directly to those sponsors and make it clear that if they support the new rules it will directly impact their business.
It's pretty simple and the result of evolution. The Mod Motor class was started a couple years ago with the hope of stirring up the late model mustang crowd. It worked and now it's large enough to eliminate the others. Look at the class! It's HUGE without F-150's, Crowns, T-birds, etc. Ford is a sponsor of this class and can afford the large payouts. The NLOC sponsors the Top Truck class and we allow any Ford truck to participate. Yes, our class doesn't get the attention of the Modular class because our payouts aren't as high. Sorry, but we're still growing and will never be as financially secure as Ford.
FFW once had a Lightning only class. They changed that 2 years ago to the Top Truck class because the lack of participation (good idea on their part to keep the class alive). I've seen turnouts with only 2 or 3 Lightnings in the past. Now that we've jumped on board and actually offer monetary winnings-not much, but at least it's something-the class has grown considerably.
It's disheartening to me to see all the L2's run in the Modular class, but it also makes sense to me since the purse is so much larger. Now that the class has grown to the point they desired, they are eliminating the non-mustangs. This is scheduled to happen next year from what I was told.
I apologize we can't offer more to the Lightning crowd.

Hey Guys,
I have aa great idea!!! Since the ruling doesn't go into effect until the 2002 racing season. I suggest, in 2001, ALL F150 online Lightning owners and any other ones we can contact, go to every Fun Ford Event be it only local. IN FORCE!! If 50 -100 Lightning show up to race, in mod motor, the odds of use taking home the $7500.00 first place money grows dramatically. That should PI$$ some people off that host these events!!!
Another suggestion that should be done is mass mailimg o all the sponsors of the events and classes.

Seems simple to me. Ford is putting up the money to showcase the Mustang. Any success that a limited production truck has will detract from what they are trying to accomplish. I think it is a good move on Ford's part.
In reality, how many Generation 2 Lightnings have ever gotten to the money round in Mod Motor? Its a long shot at best.
I know we're all rebels, but I think we should quit picking on the Mustangs and beat up on each other for a while. We've been doing that here in Dallas all year and it has actually been quite entertaining. Why not support the NLOC effort and run Top Truck next year.
I personally think that it would be a better showcase than sprinkling a few Lightnings among what is basically a Mustang class anyway. At least we have a place to go. How would you like to have a T-bird or some other non-mustang mod motor car? Those are the guys that are really being snubbed.
I can't blame Ford for putting their money where it does the most good.
