Post Johnny Lightning street chip VS. R9

Has anybody run both of these chips and is there a significant performance difference. Also is Johnny's air intake without the ram air a good choice?
Thanks

Hopefully within another 7-10 days I will have more dyno data to share on the various chips I have now and have run in the past.

I've already posted _detailed_ numbers on the PSP street chip vs. the Superchip CUX1TRAC program. Granted, that particular Superchip no longer is their #1 program.

I have a JL street chip and just had PSP reburn their chip for me b/c I was experiencing some detonation at WOT in 3rd gear. That problem is now fixed, so its just a matter of getting to the dyno.

I was at the track saturday with another L. he has the JL street chip & Pro M mass air & ran a best of 13.03 I have a R9 & airaid with S&B filter & ran a 13.07 I don't think there is a lot of difference between the two. Maybe I can try Dave's JL chip this weekend & give a better report. Lloyd

I run the JL chip, and AFAIK, the street program is basically the R9, with tweaks for shift points.

It downshifts more aggressively, from 5mph or so higher than the R9.

Lloyd you're welcome to try out the JL chip but mine is programed for the shift kit also. Rob has on of my other JL chips though.

Judging by MPH I'd give the nod to the JL chip. Lightning Bob(R9) & BlkSVTTruck (JL)
were running last weekend and BlkT had the advantage in ET & MPH. Same basic setup for both trucks but the JL truck had a 105+mph trap speed compared to a 103+mph for the R9 chipped truck. I used to think that the PSP chip in my '99 was the pinnacle of Lightning chips but Johnny Lightning's program is every bit as good as PSP's but without the long waits and headaches. An excellent buy in my opinion ( as well as his filter kit ).

Cool

XCheyenne,
I just purchased the JohnnyLightning filter kit without the Ram Air extras....I haven't dynoed it or run at the track but if the boost gauge reads accurately, then the kit is definitely worth the money! Before the kit I was getting just under 10psi completely stock....with the JL kit the needle jumps significantly past the 10psi limit!!! I say it's worth it.

It's good quality, you can tell it's hand made, but it has the correct positioning for the sensors and you get a MONSTER 12" powerstack filter to go along with it. It has a nice price to go along with it, too.
