Post Another Great Dealer Experience

I stopped at Chapman Ford today after
work to see about getting "the clunk" fixed on my '00 L. I was told they don't think the fix the Ford engineers came up with will work and they wanted to weld the bolt to the frame. I said "no I don't think so". I then say "does the moving bolt affect alignment?" He reply's "sure does". I said "if you weld it on how are you going to get it aligned?" He says "Daahhhh, Oh yea" This is the assistant service manager. Unbelievable!! Then he says you could just drive it the way it is and when it wears out the tire, sue Ford. Again I can't believe he's telling me this. I don't know what to believe now, but I don't think I want them to work on my truck. I had my cousin who lives upstate (and works for a Ford dealer) do a service printout on my truck and I find out Chapman already filed a warranty repair claim with Ford saying they installed the washers and bolt on my truck, checked it out and it's fine now!! Nobody has ever touched my truck!! Anybody know a good dealer around here?

Sorry about the long post but I needed to vent a little......

take your truck to Cadillac dealer, they are almost always great to deal with. Since they are Ford, they can do warranty work.

Hey silver,

Have an alignment shop do the alignment first then back the truck off the rack and onto a lift and have 'em weld the bolt. Once you fix it in place w/ the weld you would have to hit a curb pretty hard to knock it off(you would do serious damage at that point). The star washer fix may work but there are a lot a variables that can affect the longevity of this repair. The proper alignment will require a cam bolt set to be installed. And make sure the welder knows how to take precautions with your trucks electronics.

This procedure cost me about $150.00. I could have fought with the dealer but sometimes its best to pick your battles
Regards,
Franko

You should call SVT and report that this dealership is filing false warranty repairs. What they are doing goes on your record on OASIS I am sure, and its just plain wrong. Why isnt $30k enough money to spend at a dealership to get honest, polite, and correct service?

I have run into more retarded people who seem to migrate to the car business - sales, service, etc. I wonder why that is?

Silverbolt, why are you not going for the truly real fix which is replacing the lower control arms like some of the rest of us have done or are doing? Search under "redlite" to get the part numbers if you need them. Post start around January.

This is the specified SVT fix. And, it appears based on some of the posts of late, Ford is shipping these as priority express, and not taking three weeks like mine did.

redlite- I have been reading the posts and printed some out with the part numbers you are talking about. (I don't remember off hand whos posts they were) They said they checked with SVT and the bolt and washers fix is the only one available. They said they couldn't go by what people said on the internet. I guess I'm being lied too, I don't know. I want the new control arms like some of you guys got but I don't seem to be getting anywhere with this dealer. Maryland isn't too far from me. Do you mind telling me what dealer you went to? Who you talked to? Were you happy with them?
Thanks, Ron

Thanks for the advice guys. It may have been a mistake but thanks Yoda, it made me laugh and I needed that.
98Cobra- You're right I'm checking my options. I thought they were nuts sending me surveys to fill out on how I liked the repair (what repair?!?)...now I know why. It's really difficult to find someone who gives a ***** dealing with a company as big as Ford. At least they could act like they care.
Thanks again guys, Ron
