Post Registration Fees !!

Why is it only $245 to register my Mustang with the DMV and $545 to register my Lightning? That just seems ridiculous to me. Just curious if anyone here knows...

Brimstone: A dealer explained this to me once... Registration fee is based primarily on "value" of vehicle & age of vehicle... though other factors have an influence, i.e. weight!

Is your mustang a few years old? What's it worth?

For a "new" car, 1.8% is a good rule of thumb... so someone at the DMV thinks your L is worth $30277.

P.S. Can you please email me... got a question about your suspension araja@kestrelsolutions.com

In Calif. there is also an additional DMV fee to owning a truck and that is called, commercial plates which add approx. $135 to the cost of the L's license fees. This fee is based on the weight of a truck.

A long time ago, I refused the commercial plates for a truck and forced them to give me regular plates. I saved $$$ but couldn't carry more than a broom in the back. That was a long time ago and I don't know if that still can be done.

Okay I have a better understanding now.

By the way, Spiro, it IS highway robbery, that's a way of life out here in Southern California. Just ask CHiPs (California Highway Pirates).
