Cool Got the L back today....new tranny and all

Took almost 10 days for the new tranny to get here, 1/2 to install it. They also replaced the fan and cowling, for what reason I don't know. My service advisor was gone so I couldn't ask. Seemed fine when I took it in unless they broke it some how, don' know. Runs great, like new again.

$2300+ in parts and labor covered by warranty, $1700 for parts of which the tranny was $1195. Not as bad as I thought for the tranny alone.

The tranny was making the very loud grinding noise when in 1st or reverse (very simular to when your out of brake pads, only this was happening when taking off or backing up).
Took it in and they found
"chunks of metal in the pan, we must replace it. It will cost to much to repair."

Sorry to hear about that. Glad to hear they did you right.

I turned wrenches when I was a kid and it scares me to think of someone working on my vehicles...

Hey Red2000SVT, my Lightning was making a funny noise also. Thought it was the tranny but I couldn't make the truck do it all the time. After I would stop at a traffic light and let off the brake pedal I would hear this grinding while the truck started rolling. Kinda sounded like a chain sliding off a metal work bench. The noise would stop at 15 - 20 mph. Does this sound like yours?

Did they tell you what was wrong, I had a bet down on a planetary pinion gear coming loose.

FordPlay It started that way, barely noticable, then got real bad real quick. Also happened in reverse.

Factory_Tech They didn't tell me what was wrong. They only got as far as removing the pan and it was so bad they just stopped and ordered a new one. Said they had to send it off to get taken apart and figured out
