Post ***Calling Factory Tech***

Factory Tech
If I give you the numbers of my tranny, could you see if there was any problems with it at the factory. It had a pop when shift into D and R. It got worse over time and the ended up changeing the converter, all clutchs, and overhauled the vavle body.
If you give me your email I will send it oh if you could tell me what numbers you need and where they are. Thanks
Justen

Just forward of the extension housing on the driver's side is a tag with a large two character code (1J for a 99 or 1S for a 00) on it are small lines with one beginning BD and four characters and the line above it is the serial number, give me the BD code and the serial number and I can look it up.

The only tag on the drivers side had the characters 1F (not 1J), but the BD line is BD9F08.

Thanks for your help

I'm sorry, 1J was a typo (the '01 models are J1) 1F would be right, I need the serial number, which is the line above the BD. It would be a lot of zeros ending with up to four real digits, you have a build date of July 8, so it could very likely be a three digit or even a one or two digit build number, that early it could very well be the first run of them ever made, do you have Number 1? Just out of idel curiosity, is the tag all white or white with a green block? The green blocks are the very early builds of a given model year, tells everyone to be careful with this one, it's a new model year box. they ussually have green blocks when we're still running two differnt model years, which happens every year for about a week or two.

Justin, have him check the Coolant Bypass Valve for the leak on the rear of the pan, or the pan gasket, of course. Could also be the extension housing gasket. I'll run your number tonight to see if it was a First Time Thru.

Factory tech,
I was at the Ford display in Daytona this weekend where they featured the H.D. F150. I overheard the rep telling some guy how he could supercharge it and it would be "Just like a Lightning". I asked a few questions about the differences 1 being the trans and he said no it is the same as a Lightning. I smiled and walked away. Have they started useing the same trans thru the lineup?

Well, when I was looking into new rotors for my truck, the parts guy told me that the Lightning rotors are marked in the computer as NASCAR F150/Lightning front rotor.

HMM.

The H-D gets a 4R70W Transmission, the Lightning has a modified 4R100, and the engine is not the same either, the L has all Forged internals. The brakes on a lightning are off of an F-250 on one axle and off of an Excursion on the other but I don't know which is which to tell you the truth, I do know they're strictly off the shelf parts, nothing special.

Oh, Justin,
Your transmission was a FTT, had no problems at the factory.
