Thumbs up "L" center console conversion

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know what's involved in converting the "L" bench seat to a two-seat w/ a center console? I was wondering if it'd be possible to use the console off a '04 Harley D. crew cab. Anyway, I'd appreciate any info. Thanx and drive carefully!

It looks cool; but, there's nothing like taking a long ride with your arm around your lady. Unless she wants to lay her head in your lap and take a 'nap'. That's real nice, too.

My wife likes the console mod better than the stock seat, she says it is much more comfortable.

The hardest part is finding someone to do the seat.

If you guys need someone to do the seat, there is a guy here in Tampa that has done several - they look and work awesome.

You could send just the new bucket seat bottom and your existing seat cover to him and he will make the conversion for $200.

Even the stictching is EXACTLY like the driver's seat.

Just wanted to share...

I could be wrong but i believe you could buy a driver seat, and just convert the brackets and hardware with the new passenger side ones

It is probably easier to buy a passenger bucket from an Expedition, swap the seat back from the Lightning and then have the Lightning seat cover cut down to fit the Expedition seat bottom.

I bought the whole passenger seat from a junk yard for $150, including the seat mounting brackets and mounting bolts.

You will have to tap the holes in the floor pan for the console and bucket seat bolts to screw into.

All told, the cost ended up being around $750:

1. Junk yard seat - $150
2. Center console - $350
3. Seat upholstery - $225
4. Spray paint for console - $25

The upholstery guy did my seat and recovered the lid for the console for $225 - the seat alone is $200.

The install is relatively easy, if you are OK with tapping the holes and such.

In my opinion, the hardest part is getting a console - we got lucky and won 2 auctions on eBay the same day.
