Radio squealing...
When I first got the truck, and a couple of times since, when I listen to the radio, any station, I hear squealing in the background. So I got to work with it squealing, and then shut the truck off, and as a test turned the ignition back on - no squealing. WTF? Any thoughts?
Did the squeal change pitch with engine rpm? If so then it sounds like the alternator is the source of the noise, but the question of course is why?
Make sure the radio antenna lead is not pinched, cut or loose.
Make sure the radio ground connection is secure.
Make sure the alternator is well grounded, although if it is not you will have worse trouble than a noisy radio.
And this may sound stupid, but the noise was coming from the speakers, right? Could it have been an under the hood noise, maybe an alternator bearing or idler pulley bearing going bad?
Good luck

I should mention that this truck is 1 month old. It is a 2000 Lightning.
Also, if it was a loose connection, I dont think that sitting in a parking space, listening to it squeal while the engine is on, then turning the truck off, then turning the ignition back on and hearing no squealing would work...
Also, I cant seem to find any TSB about this. I checked nhtsa.gov and alldata.com. Could you tell me the TSB number perhaps?
Thanks guys,
Garett

that is correct.. the superchip caused a noise in my radio. Put in a different switch and shortened the wire lead connected to plastic holder that I made and taped to the stock computer. No noise...
There is a TSB out on this problem. You can find it at www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/tsb/
Apparantly, the source of the noise is interference from the fuel pump.
