Question Anyone using a "NEW" Downs filter Kit?

I'm just curious if anyones running a NEW Downs filter kit? I've read posts about the early versions being a piece of *****...I don't want to spend $200+ for an air kit and know PSP can't help me anytime this decade...So, if anyones got the Downs system how is quality and fit?

afj00svt,
I got one of the first downs filters and it fit fine. It makes alot of difference with the chip /filter combo. Seems like the problem was after the first batch with the fit. Quality of the unit is ok(by that I mean that the housing to the unit is pretty hard to clean.)Most of the other units you are looking at that run over 200 are gonna come with the new mass air meter 80mm. Not really a big gain with it unless you have stuff already done.

Good Luck, Justin

Do you have any fabricating skills? I fabbed up my own intake and only cost me about $70, including the cost of a new 9" S&B Power Stack filter. (Filter shown is an old K&N that has since been replaced.)

Spend $280.00 and get a PRO-M MAF with a filter attached. Better investment.

Does the PRO-M come with that filter in the picture? If so can you get one of the bigger filters for it and do the big filters help or hurt performance? A good air intake setup is going to be about $200 so why not go for the PRO-M?

Thanks for any help.

Cool

00BlackL...I LOVE your fabbed up kit! What materials did you use? Is there anything "special" that needs to be done to the tube the filter goes on? Is it just a tube with a K&N on it? If so, is that how all filter kits are made? Once again, excellent craftsmanship 00BlackL!!!

The filter you see on the PRO-M comes with it and the unit is calibrated for that filter. PRO_M tested the other longer cone filters and found the added nothing but additional cost.

Thanks. The tube is half of a 4" diameter 90 degree exhaust tubing elbow ($19). The ends are swaged up and provide a better fit to the MAF meter (slightly bigger than 4" dia.) Used thick (1/8") sheet plate ($4)for adaptor plate to to bolt up to the MAF. Same plate for support bracket. Stainless bolts for attachment ($5) and new 9" S&B Power Stack filter ($45 from Sal).
Yes, all air intakes are basically just tubing to connect the MAF to the filter. The main differences appear to be the quality. The PSP (Sal) intake sells for $125 (but there's a long wait) and is a fair price, $200+ for others seems high to me. Of course if you can make your own it's both quicker and cheaper.

if you don't already have a pro-m meter you might want to talk to BaBolt about the pieces he is making. his quality is second to none and now he can deal pro-m products. here is his post with the piece you are thinking about. https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/006699.html

afj00svt,
The tubing was bought at a local muffler shop while the plate and bolts were bought at Home Depot. Filter was from Sal at PSP. Use a mig welder with a small rod to made an attractive weld.
