Question Anyone Else Try Straight Pipes?

I am having many problems trying to get a muffler system on my L(from not knowing how to install, to them saying I won't get much sound difference). I figure I am going to just cut out the muffler & install straights myself.
Curious if anyone has tried Tundra's suggestion too.

Thumbs down

I have not installed straight pipes, but I did remove the muffler at the track once.(okay it fell off ) I gained absolutely NOTHING. It did make my truck LOUD and annoying to drive in, but i'm sure it would have been quieter if I had straight pipes and was not just dumping the exhaust under the cabin.

I bought an x-pipe (2 pipes that are cut and welded in the center to allow cross flow and increase scavenging) from a fellow L owner that had it fabricated. It bolts in place of the muffler (no cutting just 4 C clamps). He sold it to me for the $75.00 he was into it since he thought it was too loud while towing his race car. I love the sound and have had nothing but compliments even from old school hot rodders ie 32 Fords etc. I don't know exactly what it did but seems to have added some high end with out loosing low end torque. With an R9 superchip and an airaid the truck will smoke through second if nailed hard on the launch (not always a good thing). This setup has made me seek help from the traction gods. Not sure of what if anything the x does vice straight pipes but it seems to be the way to go, especially for less than 100 bucks. The fact that it can go back to stock so easily is a plus also.

Cool

Go get you a Magnaflow dual in, dual out it's straight thru with an X-pipe built in the middle. It sounds sweet. Mine was $180 installed. This way you get your straight pipes and X-pipe all in one.

I am seriously considering putting on the straight pipe since it won't cost me much to try it. I bet it sounds mean when you turn the key? I am looking for that deep rumble that makes people turn their head when you start up the engine & go.

As long as I don't lose any torque or hp I am willing to try almost anything. How does the magnaflow sound btw? I don't know if you ever heard the Flowmaster 40 or 50's, but if so how does it compare to them? Which model or kit did you get?

BayAreaLightning - Here is the Magnaflow that I put on mine and if I remember correctly it is the same one that LTNBOLT is using. If you're looking for loud this is not the way to go. If you're looking for something that sounds good and won't make you nuts from and excess drone, give this a shot.

It's straight through with an x-pipe built into it.

Cool

It is the same one you have ******. The sound reminds me of the Walker Dynomax. It has a nice low tone. The part# is on my website.
