Man I wish I could keep my current Camaro, and put a Lightning engine in it. "Built FORD Tough with Chevy Stuff" That'd be one awesome ride. I'd call it "Chaotic Confusion". Oh well, A man can dream.

hey everybody, mike at diverified products 734-459-0130 has these engines for $3500. no bidding wars to mess with. i understand that this guy has bought alot of parts but unless you're going to put this motor in a late model ford truck you're going to have to fabricate alot of these things anyways. and i don't think i would've bought that heavy clutch fan. just my 2 cents.
Didnt look like $4k worth of parts to me.
Alternator
Fan and clutch
Fan Shroud
IC Reservoir, pump and cooler
Airbox ( Duh we all pulled it off )
Blower belt and pulleys
I guess if each part above was $500 then they would add up to 4K
Dont see CUX2 or wiring harnesses

Diversified is in Michigan, right next door to Ford. They just use a forklift to get their parts.

Just curious. I sold, as you know, the '99 crate motor I purchased last Nov. for $4000 for $4500 which included freight and 12 months of credit card interest.
Said motor was purchased from a Ford dealer in Mo. and I believe what they told me, that they paid about $3500 for it, so they made around 15% profit which is not much, way less than warranty parts profit.
My local dealer asks $7500 for the same crate motor, I assume now a 2000 version, and he says he has to pay $4500 for it and that would be a 40% gross profit which is closer to the norm for spare parts.
Is the $3500 dollar motor you are referring to the same "crate" motor that several of us on this board purchased a year ago?
I am in no way trying to start an argument, but I am really hard pressed to understand how someone can buy and resell a motor like the one I had for a Ford Lightning for $3500 and make any kind of profit at all.
As an add on to this, it is my understanding that FMC is still behind in supplying complete motors to owners who have complained of "piston slap" and a few other problems as well as supplying motors to Lightning owners who have had intercooler and other problems. The "piston slap" of course is not confined to Lightnings, but all 5.4 engines manufactured up to whenever they fixed whatever the problem was.
Any input you can give me or us on this question would be very much appreciated.

i don't know how he does it, thats why he is in the business to make money. i'm sure he is not giving these things away with no profit. i just wanted to pass along a good deal to everyone that was interested. the date on my motor is 11/17/99 which means it would be what came out in the 2000 L's. he is in plymouth, mi. so maybe he saves a few hundred on shipping, i don't know, all i do know is that it is the best deal i've seen out there and i wanted to pass it on.

Thanks for the response. Like I said, I am not disagreeing or bitching, I just could not understand how he does it. The only other possibility I have come up with is that (what blasphemy I speak) Lightnings are not selling quite as well or as fast as FMC had planned and as the motors are unique to that vehicle that they essentially dumped a small number of complete motors.
This has happened many, many times before and not only with Ford.

Hi Guys!
I think I can provide you with some additional information. First I list Mikes business on my web page Diversified Products and their phone number. Mike sells all the items that are listed in the Ford Racing catalog. His volume is huge and he has great prices on many items. In fact they are so good (his prices) that there are internet marketeers (pirates) that advertise Ford Performance items for sale for a certain (higher) price. Once they have made a sale they call "Diversified", place an order and then "Diversified" ships to their customer. A quick profit for the pirate for little or no work and a hosing (you may have paid too much) for the customer. Whats the point, caveat emptor.
