Talking Presidential Limos

Had a good laugh this week. I was coming back from Egypt with a plane load of Bill's Limos and Suburbans. We begin unloading them and one of the Presidential Cadillacs won't start. We have to push it off the airplane. I told the secret service guy they should buy Lincolns

I don't see the Secret Service buying an L but I did see a pretty cool armored Expedition. By the way I saw a stretch navigator Limo at my Ford dealer a couple of weeks ago. Now that would make a cool Presidential ride.

Galaxy:

A political slant on this question, not having to do with Slick Willie, as it covers a lot of our Presidents over the last 50 years or so.

As a fellow International Traveller and Resident, I read still a lot of foreign press coverage on US Presidential Visits.

It really torques off most countries that the President of the United States is, from what I read, the only Head of State that sends a complete aircraft, or perhaps more than one, with his own personal armored fleet of Limos and Suburbans.

Sort of the ultimate insult in the sense that no other country can provide adequate security for POTUS in a foreign country and at the same time we do not allow other Heads of State to fly in their equivelant Limos and support vehicles when they visit us. Sorry, almost forget FLOTUS and whatever they call the kids.

I may have got it from you, but I do understand that most if not all of the Presidential Fleet are "tuned" just a tad to be faster than your average bear when it comes to esiting a nasty situation.

Bill

I don't know if you are referring to the armored ones of the fleet..but i know alot of ppl who convert normal SUV's into VIP escorts and they are SLOW...they are soooo heavy (due to armor..duh) they handle like crap.....
i don't know how much you will have to "tune" a 6000 pd vehicle to go...
but i bet you could chase down the pres in his caddy quite easly

BlueL:

I cannot for the life of me remember who posted it, but it was at least a year ago.
They basically said that the motors were a combination of stock and "Marine" parts, marine being the boat motor hot shoe items.
The trannies as well were considerably beefed up to withstand not only the additional power but also very well cooled to cope with parade type speeds for hours at a time.

Whoever it was, knew what he was talking about (I have read similar reports in the automotive trade press)and indicated that while not actually performance vehicles, they were pretty darned speedy when they had to be.

As to the Cadillac not starting, I have heard that the "Little Black Box" that our Presidents have to carry has a tremendous drain on the vehicle's electrical system (hee, hee)

For obvious reasons they (the Secret Service) don't talk about the exact capabilities of their vehicles They are heavier than sh*t though.
