Post Calling any of johnny lightnings chip users

Hey guys i need some help. i received jl's superchip yesterday. i installed it last night and i must say wow this thing is bad now. but i have a problem i was going to the track tonite to test but before i did while driving in town today i noticed a skip in regular slow town driving, and i also noticed how the shifts were so firm it felt like a shift kit but not quite as hard. but the main thing was the skip. i have never flipped it to program 2 which is labeled as the race program b/c i have no 104 in it. i got home pulled it out and no skip everything was fine. what could be causing this? could it possibly be on race program or would that make it skip if no 104. i haven't noticed detonation but it would be hard to hear it b/c of exhaust. is the street program supposed to shift that firm? i really want to race tonite. could it possibly have not been attached to the computer firmly? i dont know but any advice would be appreciated. johnny did not answer i figured he may be gone racing.

Rusty,

Does it "skip" all the time? Is it an engine miss or does this happen when it upshifts?

I really like my JL chip, and I'm having a hard time understanding what you're describing.

I'd go ahead and head to the track and make some full throttle passes.

FWIW, mine does not shift hard when just babying the truck around town...and I have a shift kit on top of the chip. Now when I'm on it, it lays a nice scratch on the 1-2 shift and the full throttle shifts are quick and firm.

I don't think I quite understand what a 'skip' is. I have been running the JL chip for a while now with no problems. I am more than sure JL will help you out with any problems, but he's out at E-town. drescibe what a skip is and maybe we can help.

I think he means its kinda like a miss, like the engine stumbles every know & then.

yes yoda is right it is a miss. i just got back from the track i did not run it or drive it for that matter. i wanted to talk to johnny first and see what he thinks. wes now that you mention it it seems like it does have the engine miss right before it shifts. usually around 2k rpms. ill give you an example i held it low around 1800rpms just leveled out and i did not hear it skip just the time i shifted it into 2nd i heard it miss a couple of times. by the way i took the chip out and took my time and reinstalled it and the same thing happened, i even ran it in strip mode at full throttle just up until bout 50 mph and it started detonating really bad (just checking to make sure i had it on the right program). i am 100% sure johnny will work with me on this. i just wanted to know from some of your opinions on what is going on. i have never wanted to race as bad as i did when i got to the track, i missed my baby when we pulled in the gate. there were about 3 or 4 trucks in the 8's and i wanted to try them really bad. but i will next time just as soon as i iron this out. johnny's a great guy. do you think possibly it will just have to get used to the new program. thanks

My '99 would do that when running at 45-50MPH with it in O/D. Someone mentioned the torque convertors cause it and it's nothing to worry about. Haven't noticed it with this one.

mine did it at that speed too but that was 6 months ago, i had a bad coil pack. and mine is only missing with the chip in, without it it does not do it.
