Talking Finally a street race!

My buddy and I were leaving a redlight behind a 90 something Red Z28 Slowmaro. The Camaro nailed it and I wasn't paying attention. At the next light it was just him so I got in the other lane. When light turned green I waited to see if he would nail it, well he did! So I nailed mine and met Mr. Wheelspin. Camaro was nose to nose with me. Shifted into 2nd gear and pulled ahead. His nose was at my passenger door. Held it a couple more seconds and let off. Steadily I was pulling away. Length of race was less than 1/8th mile. (We were in town in a 35 mph zone!). At the next light, he rolls down his window and says, "Ya got a nice truck, if my kid wasn't in the backseat I'd like to see what we could do." I looked hard and didn't see no KID!! I said, "You just got your a$$ waxed by a truck man!" He turned and squealed tires. What fun! I've been dying to try out the R9 and Airaid in a street race! I'm not new to drag racing, but it's been a few years since I did a little street dog racing. Now if I could just get that NOS kit installed! :-)

What he should have said was: "I am so glad my kid wasn't in the back seat 'cause I would have never been able to look him in the eyes again, being SMOKED by a truck !!"

I don't jump on the throttle too hard at first on the street, the surface almost never can take the torque. Even if it can, its more fun letting him try again at the next light and then ...zoom!

I agree. I didn't go full throttle, but eased it down and still could hear the tires spinning. What's really adding insult to injury is he had 30 day temporary license tags! Better take it back and try to find a good used 99 or 00 L!! Haha

I feel your pain, Ryan. With my Swanson chip, MAF, and 4.10 rear traction on the street on the F1s is really problematic. I thought I had a race today, I'm sitting at a light and who should pull up next to me but some young dude in an SS. I looked at him, he looked at me, and we both grinned. I thought for sure I had a race, so when the light changed I nailed it, but for some reason he didn't, I guess he didn't want any part of this bad puppy. But I had so much wheelspin that I had to keep feathering the throttle, and I think if he had got on it he probably would have left me sitting in a cloud of smoke. I'm sure not going to run drag radials on the street, but with so much power and such a light rear end the traction issue is driving me nuts. I don't want to compromise the handling of my truck, but I don't see any answer except a trip to Lancaster for a set of Cal-tracs. (I know Tundra will say throw some sandbags in the bed, but even though I like low-tech solutions, that's a little too low tech even for me). What are the rest of you folks doing to mitigate wheelspin?

Cool

Alpahdoggy, was just reading this months issue of Truckin' (at 5:00 am?) and I see that there is a company called RoadMaster, that has an Active Suspension. The Active Suspension, "increases towing and load carrying capacity AND reduces Axle wrap & WHEEL HOP, Eliminates bottoming out, reduces dangerous roll (for you canyon racers {like me}), and it Eliminates sway. All this without hardening of the ride. And it has a lifetime warranty! Money Back Satisfaction Guaranteee!" No I don't work for them, but it's right in front of me, so hey, I figured why not type the whole darn add. If you are interested, the number is 1-800-398-5036.

Thumbs up

Thanks, Marcus, that is great information. They have a web site, http://www.activesuspension.com
It really looks good in principle, and the price is reasonable, $199, so I am going to install a set and see how it works. Things are never as simple as they seem, though, I called the CA distributor and he told me that the p/n for the F150 on the web site is wrong.
They widened the shackles on the newer trucks and they require p/n Mk. II XS. I called the local dealer and they don't have that part in stock, and it isn't listed in the catalog, so we are working on getting a set now. Even as I write this the dealer, Big Brand Tire in Oxnard, called me and said they could get the part on special order, probably by Monday, and it would cost me $199 + $15 shipping and $100 to install, so I ordered it and we will soon find out whether it works. I will be the guinea pig for the board, and hah, Jim Shaw, I found a part before you did.

PS: are you interested in caravaning to Famoso on Nov. 4 for the street legals?
