This might sound a little callous but who in the hell would take their Lightning to WalMart for service work? Next you'll complain about the shoddy job of alignment performed at the factory. Aren't these two "professionals" one in the same?

On a lighter note, my technician suggested not filling the oil to the high mark on the dipstick as you will get windage losses. Halfway up the dipstick was suggested. Heard this little free-mod is worth AT LEAST 3-4 horsepower.

Hey, you never know!?!

For those that change their own oil, why not use the metal ramps you can drive onto? Only takes a minute to line them up and drive on. Pretty good investment as they cost less than an oil change at wally world....why mess with a jack and stands?

I saw a sign the other day that read:

When I die, please bury me at WalMart so my wife will visit my grave

Maybe WalMart's the place!

1BadFrd,

Not that ramps are bad but for all around purposes (ie: shackle install, rear tire swaps, etc.) a floor jack and jack stands cant be beat.

When I was a young-un, I watched my neighbor (read Gomer) drive over the end of his ramps. Guess what his jalopy had to be rescued with.....floor jack and blunt force trauma to the head....again.

No flame or reference to above described individual intended for those using ramps...

[Sarcasm on } Next time I need Chip burned or an alignment I'll make sure I dont go to Walmart. [/sarcasm off]

But an Oil Change is an Oil change. In this case cheaper is better. Anyone who thinks that the Oil jockey at Ford is any better qualified than the ones at Walmart, or Jiffy Lube or anywhere else is sniffing Zaino.

Thumbs up

I find the best way to change oil is to do it myself at home. I simply drive it over my Mechanic's pit in the garage Start to finish......5 minutes

Hey Speedin Bob,

Good detailed instructions on oil change. Just a couple of details that you left out:
1) Fill the oil filter with oil before screwing it on.
2) It's 6 qt. of oil for the 5.4 V8, not 5.

FWIW, I've seen too many oil jockey (Ford, Jiffy Lube, WalMart, etc.) screwing up oil changes to even consider letting them touch any of my cars. No, it's not rocket science, but ask around and you'll be shocked at how many people drove away with too much / too little/ no oil, stripped / loose / no drain plug, or wrong grade of oil.

If at all possible, DIY and save the headache.

I bought a set of car ramps for low clearance vehicles. They work perfect, but you do need a spotter to help in the climb. The ramps are made out of some kind of injection mold and will hold 12,000lbs. I got them at,you guessed it, Walmarts. Nobody changes my oil but me. Mobil 1 at 2500 miles.

Save the time and the money and never change the oil. Then sell the L after 20k miles to an R/T owner, and buy a new one.
