Post What does the "Pinging" sound like?

Have a PSP chip, have a Pro-M meter. What am I looking for with the Ping issue. Is it a couple of pings or a bunch of pings grouped togeter? Is it loud or faint? Is it very harmful?

I have noticed a pinging noise at moderate acceleration in overdrive/drive but not under hard. Is this normal?
Any Advise?

its kinda like a knock, whole bunch right after another. They are not very loud, but if im in third at a low mph & give it gas I can hear it.

Pinging sounds like marbles in a can being shaken. Don't mess with pinging at all; when you hear it BACK OFF. You can melt your motor sooooooo fast. My Pro-M and PSP combo was soooooo bad, I immediately took the chip out. And, that was after Sal reburned it for me.

When I had the turbo put on my Cobra Mark told me it would sound like driving down a gravel road, and it does. Get out of it no matter what, the easiest way to blow a motor is to let it detonate on boost.

Whenever I've heard pinging I've always thought of beans being shaken in a can. That's just what it reminds me of...

If you hear it it will probably be at WOT under a good load. Maybe just prior to or after shifting into third.

They're right.... The second you hear it get your foot out of the gas ! Blown head gaskets, cracked pistons and lots of other nasty stuff can happen very fast.....

Sounds like what i've heard is pinging. I mostly likely hear it at around 55 mph when the accelerator is pushed just to the point before it downshifts. The "Load" on the motor at low RPM with blower boost going seems to be when it happens.
My PSP chip is the old style without a switch. I want to return it for the revised version but am concerned on how long the wait will be to see it back. No offense SAL!

How do I rectify this situation without removing the chip. OCTANE BOOST?

yes, I am in that same boat as you with waiting for Sal to resned me a new chip. I am using NOS octane boost. Kinda expensive @ $9-$10 a bottle but well worth it instead of a burnt motor!!! The NOS seems to work better that any other I have treid

It is exactly the sound a diesel engine makes, (compression ignition) but it is less loud and should go away when backing off the gas. You don't want to hear it for more than a second or so because it is the sound the combustion process makes while melting holes in the piston...
