newb 2000 Lightning question?
Hi im new here and currently drive an 03 silverado, i was wanting to know what info you could give me on the 2000 lightnings. I was thinking of trading my truck for one if the person is still interested but i dont know if theres known problems with these or if theres anything else i need to know. heres the link to the one that sent me a message if its anyone on here or if you know about the truck. http://www.mautofied.com/listing-100033547.html Just wondering if it would be a good trade mines an 03 ls with the 5.3 that is almost flawless only bad thing is i do alot if hwy driving to and from work and i have 76000 miles. if anyone could share their opinions with me that would be great.
+1, that is pretty ugly....You will love a lightning and if you do go for that one, take it and have it repainted black....
The trucks are fast and can easily be modded to go faster. As with any vehicle, once you start modding it must be done correctly or you could run into problems. It is supercharged and will take some time to learn the specifics if you have never owned or modded an SC vehicle.
The rods are good for the stock L but wont take a bunch of abuse over about 450 hp. Some guys on here have ran more HP on the stock bottom end and they swear its all in the tune but you will find more folks that went over 450-500 hp and blew it up. The spark plug threads are another weak point, just not enough of them. if the plug gets the least bit loose it will blow out. It can be fixed with inserts or the newer upgraded heads.
you will not be dissapointed and will be hard pressed to keep from modding the heck out of it.

hey thanks for that bit of info. what about milage? it has almost 100k how long till it would start givin some serious problems? and what could i do to get more performance out of the engine that wont hurt it with that many miles. eventually i would look into having it rebuilt so i could some serious mods, about how much would that run me. thanks in advance Tony

tonyt915, As far as the mileage goes...Thats a crap shoot. I had a friend that had a 99 with about 100k on it when he got it. He was running 16psi on the stock eaton SC, used an open filter under the hood, never had it tuned and ran one of my old chips that wasnt calibrated for his truck or year model
. Heck, it was actually pretty fast. The only problem he ever had in 2 years was the tranny. He sold it with about 120K on it........On the other hand I blew my stock motor up at 56K with 16psi on a ported eaton, enclosed K&N cool air set-up, and a mail order tune from a popular tuner setup for my mods...
at that time it was running 8.1 in the 1/8.
A built shortblock will run you about 3000-3500$.
A Built longblock (good Heads and cams) will go between 8000-9000$
Good luck.
