ball joint failure?
ball joint failure?
over the last couple of days my 2000 lightning (39k miles) has developed a loud pop in the front end. i know about the clunk washer and i do not have any. but the truck never made much noise before now. the truck is lowered with ruslow coils springs(1" drop) and has been auto-x a few times. we installed lfp camber bolt kit with the coil springs also. it seems to do everytime i pull into or out of my driveway and parking spaces. i guess if it is the the ball joints i will just HAVE TO order some wc lower and djm upper control arms lol. thanks for any help brian
thanks i will add that to the list to check. i have got check the sway bar links, clunk washers, grease the stops, and check the ball joints. looks like i have a few things to do or check lol.
I had this problem also.I lowered 2 1/2 inches in the front. The lower ball joint angle was so great that when the suspension was under heavy compression, the ball joint would run out of range and start pullin the actual ball joint out of the control arm. It will not fall out or anything because the weight of the truck keeps it in the control arm and a snap ring keep it from comin out the other way. It just reamed out the control arm to where it would not accept a new ball joint. I ended up raising back up to stock and im gonna order drop spindles with all the provisions thhat are explained on Skeltons page. Worse case is tack them in place so they dont move around anymore. Just dont heat up the joint too much and destroy the socket.
